*** THE VOICE OF BROOKLYN ***

Hey folks,

one bullet's still left today/tonight, so here we go!!! I don't care if some one, and if so who the fuck may ever, is crying his P.C. heart out 'cause of this post here, and damn it, it's about time that I finally pay tribute to one of the greatest bands around, the YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE from Brookly, N.Y.C.!!! One of the very best American Oi! bands around, I love their sound, their music, their lyrics, their message. So now you do get two videos of them... okay, okay, the videos are a single picture shown while the song is playing, but that shall not matter at this point here anyhow. I also won't post more to or about them, 'cause they will be featured in the 'American Oi! History Series' here on this blog, so for now you do get the two songs respectively videos of them, called "NEW GLORY" and "OLD GLORY", and enjo it!!! It's the real deal, I love it!!! Would wish that they would still be around!!! So now enjoy it!!! ... Ah, but before the videos, you get the lyrics (like the music, great brilliant stuff) to the songs, of course!!!

YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE - "NEW GLORY"
I see a holy relic as it shines up in the sky
To free my people once and for all I'm willing to die
The fire in my eyes will quickly sweep the land
Smoke will fill the sky and we'll proudly take our stand
As one we march thru' the streets with the power of the sun
We'll put forth the boot as the opposition runs
The sun never sets where our flag flies high
Victory is simple as it shines up in the sky
VICTORY!
FOR THE ASHES THAT WE LEFT BEHIND!
VICTORY!
FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND DIED!
VICTORY!
FOR OUR FREEDOM 'TILL THE END OF TIME!
VICTORY!
YOU'LL SOON HEAR OUR BATTLE CRY:
ALL HAIL NEW GLORY!
Lightning will crash from the sky
And the truth will rise above all the lies
Yes my brother we must prevail
Cause only the strong will ever be hailed
It will be our new nation, in both right and wrong
And for years to come this will be our marching song
Take it for granted as the same old story
We'll hang 'em high as we hail new glory
VICTORY!
FOR THE ASHES THAT WE LEFT BEHIND!
VICTORY!
FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND DIED!
VICTORY!
FOR OUR FREEDOM 'TILL THE END OF TIME!
VICTORY!
YOU'LL SOON HEAR OUR BATTLE CRY:
ALL HAIL NEW GLORY!

So raise the flag once more
And remind us what we're fighting for
As our blood and loyalty reign
Reign forever more!
VICTORY!
FOR THE ASHES THAT WE LEFT BEHIND!
VICTORY!
FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND DIED!
VICTORY!
FOR OUR FREEDOM 'TILL THE END OF TIME!
VICTORY!
YOU'LL SOON HEAR OUR BATTLE CRY:
ALL HAIL NEW GLORY!

YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE - "NEW GLORY"

YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE - "OLD GLORY"

Hail the flag flying so strong and true
Take pride in your culture and your heritage, too
Our national spirit will never die
As the stars & stripes is raised to the sky

OLD GLORY - THE PRIDE AND THE PAIN!
THE POWER WE HAD WE SHALL REGAIN!
OLD GLORY - THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE!
TO THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER WE SHALL STAY TRUE!

Remember the brave men that fought and died
So our proud young nation would always survive
While cowards may bury their heads in the sand
We will rise up and save our land

OLD GLORY - THE PRIDE AND THE PAIN!
THE POWER WE HAD WE SHALL REGAIN!
OLD GLORY - THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE!
TO THE STAR SPANGLED BANNR WE SHALL STAY TRUE!

We'll always live up to our destiny
Always stay true to our great country
However bleak the future might seem
We'll always hold on to our American Dream

OLD GLORY - THE PRIDE AND THE PAIN!
THE POWER WE HAD WE SHALL REGAIN!
OLD GLORY - THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE!
TO THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER WE SHALL STAY TRUE!

The flag that I fly means so much to me
My life, my freedom, and our history
From the prairies in the west to the mountains up high
To keep them all free we're willing to die!!!

YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE - "OLD GLORY"

More about and to them will come soon!!! Take care!!! Cheers & Oi!,Andy!!!

When some foreign soldiers are invading my land, I'll be waiting with a rifle in hand! Patriot Action! Now!

VANGUARD - "HARD ROAD TO TRAVEL" ("Dim Records"; CD):
Damn it, this record was released back in 2008, so you see, it's already a little bit older, but as usual: I feel the need to review that record here finally, so fuck off if you think it's not new enough!!! If you already own this record, then you can see if your taste in and knowledge of music is on a high grade of understanding (what's the case if you're sharing my rating, I mean, what else;-)...), or not. If you don't own it already, then make sure that you follow any advice or order I'll give to you at the end of this review here. Ah, and again, you just can say "Thanx!" to "Dim Records" for releasing yet again another great American Oi! band. Thumbs up! VANGUARD are a relatively 'young' band hailing from out of North Carolina, so yeahr, Confederacy Oi!, haha;-). The guys in the band aren't that young any more, and that you can hear, 'cause they know how to play and how to write songs, and some of them were also once in the great American/Confederacy Oi! band of the name of ATF. They're playing here a fuckin' great harsh, heavy, and violent/militant American/Confederacy Oi! at it's best, that will hit and beat you down like the swing of a sledgehammer followed by a hit with a crowbar, to welcome you to reality, down on the cold concrete on that hard road called (real) life that there is to be travelled by each and every single one of us, with a pair of steeltoed boots waiting to be carried by you to carry and lead you on your way down that road. VANGUARD are do playing a very stand-alone and unique style of American Oi! Oi! music. Very hard and brutal, raw and rough, direct hitting you, leaving you a bloody mess. Marked very strong by the great, damn effective, bonecracking and dustdry guitar playing (great riffs, fine leads, damn good solos), a forceful bass work, very tight, hard, massive, and effective drumming, well thought-out in the songs involved crew shouts, and hard and very smart and charismatic, yet very well to understand vocals. Great!!! What I really like very much is the fact that they do very clever arrange the songs, good and well floating changes of the pace as well as the mood of the songs, no matter if you take song after song or take some a little bit more intense listenings to each single song 'alone'. Damn great!!! Maybe you can say, that if you like the YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE and OXBLOOD, then also VANGUARD will know to convince you. But they are more diverse, they vary their songs and songwriting a little bit more than OXBLOOD, and they are free of Hardcore and play the songs more and quicker down to the point with more dirt especially in the guitar playing than the YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE. Some newer bands you may can compare them with? Okay, also if you like COUNTERATTACK and/or TOTAL ANNIHILATION, then you really need to listen to VANGUARD. But they are a little bit faster and more elated than COUNTERATTACK, and they are not that much, not that strong guitar focussed than TOTAL ANNIHILATION. All four bands (YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE, OXBLOOD, COUNTERATTACK, and TOTAL ANNIHILATION) are total and pure gold, don't get me wrong, and VANGUARD also fit perfectly in that row. Somehow comparable to each single one of the mentioned bands, but with a very strong own identity, creating their own kind of spirit and atmosphere when it comes to their music, not being of copy of anything or anyone else. A really stand-alone and unique band!!! Great!!! And, what's great, no Hardcore influences in it (also I love Hardcore), no Metal crap to distort the songs, no catchy faggy so called Streetpunk flair to it to fit in some what-so-ever politically correct crowd, or mood, or scene, just pure Oi! music, and nothing less, maybe even something more. Just great!!! I really hope that VANGUARD will finally be back some soon future day, to what I know a new record of them is announced to be released still in 2010, so let us wish them the best for this proposition. So, back to this record: We do also get very, very good and strong lyrics that are covering a pretty wide distance of different topics (Working Class, Patriotism, Culture War, freedom, pride, historical issues and topics, Skinhead Way of Life topics, 'Fuck the Blues!' issues, and a lot more that waits to be discovered by you), all done very, very damn good, and then we do also get a great looking artwork, and a very fat, dirty and raw production sound that perfectly fits to the music of VANGUARD. Also their is this record out as an LP version, I think at least the colored copies were limited and should be already sold out long ago, and I can pretty much imagine that the artwork looks as an LP even damn greater than here at the CD version. So, no to my advice... no, no, no, my order to you: Buy it!!! American Oi! or Confederacy Oi! at it's best!!! So get it!!! If you still don't call it your own: Get it now!!! Cheers & Oi! (10 of 10 points)

*** BACK TO BREWHALLA ***

VARIOUS ARTISTS - "CHAOS DAYS" ("Narayan Records"; LP):
A four way split LP that contains one 7" single of each of the four bands. And that's really a nice thing if you ask me, not at least more or less all of the featured bands had been more or less unknown to me. The artwork (cover, bakcover, inlay) of the 7" singles had been taken as the components of the LP artwork, in which all are 'melted together into one' artwork. And it looks really awesome, all in black/white with nice grey contrasts. Also the production sound of each former 7" single is at least truly some good stuff if not even better. Hm, but don't ask me if the production sound was remixed or remastered or what ever when it comes to this LP release here. Ah, the LP comes on the french (?) label called "Narayan Records". It owns not the best reputation, to say it this way, but I don't know if it's true or not and anyway it's just not my problem at all at the end of the day. So, okay, now to the bands and the music we do get here: It all starts off with the great American Oi! band ROAD TO RUIN. They were a follower band of the then defunct RED, WHITE & BLUE, after they've splitted because of too heated 'political tensions' between the bandmembers. Later and after ROAD TO RUIN (don't know it, but I think they aren't existing anymore at a band) some of them went on to play in THE BARONS and THE BOOZERS. But okay, if you now expect some brutal, harsh, and militant American roughneck Oi! Oi! music like RED, WHITE & BLUE used to play it, then you're damn fuckin' wrong. They play more a melodic and some-what catchy, yet still hard hitting American Oi! cultivated with some American Streetpunk notes. Maybe you can describe them as a mixture out of PATRIOT and some RANCID marks. Great stuff!!! They deliver three songs to us here, and "BACK TO BREWHALLA" is just a larger than life anthem, pure gold, great!!! Then are coming the New York City Bootboys of THE OPPOSITION, and they are playing a truly NYC Bootboy hard stomping Oi! Core the old school way of sound. Combine OXBLOOD with SKIN DISORDER and some WARZONE and old AGNOSTIC FRONT marks to it, yeahr, and then you know what you do get from this great band!!! Pure American Oi! Core brewed the traditional 1980's way without being retro in any way. Really damn, damn good stuff!!! Side A really convinced me very much, now onward to Side B. THE RESIDUALS, I think from the Great Britain, are the ones to start Side B off with their demolishing U.K. '82 Hardcore Punk, cultivated with some very few traditional D-Beat notes. Good stuff, even it's not my favorite genre of music anyhow. The next and last ones are the clinking DOWN & OUT from Liverpool, playing some very traditional England Oi! like the COCKNEY REJECTS used to do it in their glorious long gone days. Maybe nothing anyhow 'special', but really something truly good!!! Each band delivers us also a bunch of very good lyrics, thumbs up!!! So here you get four at least good, and even (much) better bands, so make sure that you test out this damn good four way split LP, coming in bloodred vinyl to you. About any limitations I know nothing, but it's not that brandnew anymore, so better be quick with going and buying it. My personal victors are ROAD TO RUIN, but their three partners are also good to some very good stuff. I liked to see and hear more of such split releases would see the light of the day. Really good stuff!!! Test it!!! Or better: Get it, not at least because this is the only releas of THE OPPOSITION and the great ROAD TO RUIN of that I know, which you can easily get over here in Germany and the rest of the so called 'old world'. Cheers & Oi! (8 of 10 points)

... it's a balance of terror, keeps everyone in their place, count your blessings on sanity, because it just might save the whole human race...

WRECKING CREW - "BALANCE OF TERROR" ("I Scream Records"; CD):
Yeahr, here it is, the announced review of this re-release of the great WRECKING CREW (already featured with a 'Videos' post here on this very blog), done by "I Scream Records" now-a-days also already four years ago back in the days of the year of 2006. But that won't stop me from reviewing it here for you, just for the case that sme of you had missed out on this one. This one is a really great record, a important, necessary and very good re-release of this masterpiece of the Boston Hardcore scene of the late 1980's. The WRECKING CREW played something you might now-a-days call Metalcore of the first generation (also so it's correctly written in the linernotes, "THEY WERE METALCORE LONG BEFORE THAT SOUND BECAME THE PROVINCE OF CHRISTIAN KIDS WITH SMART HAIRCUTS."), or maybe you might like to call it Crossover (but not the 1990's way, here you'll find no Rap, Techno, or-what-the-hell-else-ever). Imagine a self-constrained mixture out of early New York Hardcore (WARZONE, early AGNOSTIC FRONT), Boston Hardcore (the SLAPSHOT way brewed), old school traditional Crustcore (just to name DISCHARGE), Hardcore- and Metalpunk (especially G.B.H. must be named), and a bunch of more or less clichè-free U.S. East Coast Thrash Metal (like ANTHRAX and OVERKILL), and you do have a really good impression of the music of the WRECKING CREW. And yes, if you also like S.O.D. and/or M.O.D. you'll also make no mistake with them. Damn great stuff!!! The guys knowed how to play, and they really wrote also real strong songs. Thumbs up!!! On top of it we do get a brilliant artwork, great lyrics, and a very rough and tough production sound. We do get also two very good Bonus songs, and of them is a very good cover of the great BATALLION OF SAINTS. Really a damn strong record, make sure that you call it your own!!! (9 of 10 points)

CHAOS IN THE CITY, CIVIL WAR NOW, SKINHEADS TAKING OVER LIKE SKINHEADS KNOW HOW! SKINHEAD WITH HIS BOOT ON, NOBODYS FOOL! SKINHEADS TAKING OVER!

Hey folks,
here's the next shot aimed at you!!! Next interview is ready to be posted here for your enjoyment and information, and, of course, to give the interview partner the more than just justified support. Okay, that's something like the 'bottom line' with every interview I'm doing, but with this one here, yeahr, what shall I say, I'm really excited about it!!! I've done it with RYAN of CRUCIAL CHANGE and the "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" blog, so you see, he's also a 'blog-runner' like me, might call him a 'partner in crime', haha;-), and I'm proud and happy to give him at least some little support, 'cause he's doing afuckin' great job with his blog. And you know what, also "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" was one of the reasons why I decided to run a blog by myself after I've realized that I currently just can't get a new issue of my former "MANSLAUGHTER FANZINE BAD HARZBURG" done. I liked Ryan's blog right from the start, great work, and I thought that something like this would be a great way to keep up the work I've done with my fanzine, just in another form. So you see why this interview is also something a little bit special to me!!! But Iwon't tell ya more about the blog, 'cause that's exactly what Ryan can much, much better and what he will do with the following words, so just enjoy it, if you ask me, a very good interview and a big "THANX A LOT!" for it shall be shouted out loud to Ryan, check his work and band out, great and passionate work!!! He's also given us a big bunch of damn good and very 'deep' answers and 'inside-views', really a fuckin' good job he'd done here, making it a great interview to read!!! So, and now just enjoy it!!! Cheers & Oi!
*** "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" ***

01.) Hey Ryan, first of all a big THANX for doing this interview. How are you doing these days?!?
Thanks dude! Things are going really well! I've been working a lot lately, not on the blog but for actual money, I work in landscape. My wife and I are trying to save money to buy a house sometime in the next year or so. The blog is going great! I've been getting a lot of good feed-back.

02.) Just to get better known to you at this starting point of the interview: Introduce yourself to the readers and me, so that we know with whom we are dealing here and that you are not a what-so-ever 'shady' person, haha;-).
Well, my name is Ryan; I run the blog "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" and play bass in the American Oi! band CRUCIAL CHANGE. Like I aready said, I have a wife, her name is Whitney. I have a one year old dog; he's a 'Pugle' (a Pug and Beagle mix). I'm a fan of all sorts of muic but my favorite is the genre we all know as Oi!

03.) Okay, the reason for this interview is the blog you're running, the great "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" blog. First of all, to start it all really off with, tell us what was your motivation to start it, and when did you start it? So, yeahr, where, when, why, and who?
I think all people have a thought of how they can contribute to their scene, wether it's making music, starting a zine, making T-Shirts, I just went with the easiest idea... a blog. Haha! But for real, Tyler (singer of CRUCIAL CHANGE) and I have been talking about do something like it for at least a year before it actually came to be. I had some time off work and got really bored, so I thought, what better time then now. My vision was to have a huge data-base for all Oi! and Skinhead bands, no matter what side of the fence they were on, or time period. I always wanted to find a site that I could check out bios on SKREWDRIVER and THE ANGELIC UPSTARTS. So I think it was November of last year (2009) when "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" came to life, and the rest is history. I still have a long way to go before it's a huge data-base for the scene, but I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. (I hope so, sounds great, keep it going on! - Manslaughter Andy)

04.) Are you running the blog all alone, or are there some guys more that are helping you in one form or another with your blog?
Tyler (singer of CRUCIAL CHANGE) contributes to it as well, but for the most part it's me. Tyler has done probably some of the best things on it, like the EVIL SKINS bio, the STÖRKRAFT bio, and the COMBAT 84 bio. Those are pretty much his favorite bands so I didn't want to miss anything that he would call me out on. He's an amazing writer though, and not to sound like too much of a jerk off, but probably one of the smartest , well spoken people I've met.

05.) You are also playing in the awesome American Oi! band CRUCIAL CHANGE. I don't want to get into it too deep, 'cause this interview should be solely about yur "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" blog, and I want also to do an exclusive interview with CRUCIAL CHANGE, but one single question: Is there any 'linking chain' between CRUCIAL CHANGE and "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" and how far would you go with using your blog as a base for promotion of the band? Any scruples at one point, and if so: Why and which?
CRUCIAL CHANGE is, for the most part, "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY". Tyler and I are the soul members of CRUCIAL CHANGE and we are the only two people to touch "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY". I do have a section for our band, but I try to just keep it at announcements, like when we are going play and recording, you know stuff like that. I have also posted interviews we have done in the past with other zines or blogs, but I would never interview myself or Tyler, that just seems weird and stupid.

06.) You're featuring on your blog a good and well consumerate mixture out of old and/or 'historical' bands and young and/or 'brandnew' bands. Doing this you're covering a pretty wide distance of 'time and space', from the 1980's to the present day. And yeahr, that's a very good 'line of action'!!! What is more important to you to give to us the readers, knowledge for the young of the past or to help young and new and up and coming bands out to help them to promote themselves? Will you follow this 'line of action' also in the future?
Well, sense 'the huge Oi! data-base' isn't conquered (by a fuckin' long shot), I chose to do bands from the past that I feel got over looked or misunderstood. And the new bands are always something I think is really important. I've heard enough about THE BUSINESS, THE TEMPLARS, and THE 4 SKINS for a life time, but for some reasons that's all I hear other websites and people talk about. Not too many people seem to be caring where the scene is going, they just want to relive the past.

07.) Why do you choose to run a blog and not a 'classical' or 'traditional' webzines with a proper homepage or a printed fanzine? What would you say, what is today more important or would it not be better to not build artificial frontlines between 'digital medias' and 'analog medias' to support the bands and the music? What other blogs would you endorse, and what fanzines of today (if american or not is not important here...) are a must-read when it comes to your opinion?
As of right now I'm hope to turn "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" into something a whole lot bigger than what it is now. I hope to put out a fanzine this time next year, start making T-Shirts, and release albums. (Great! - Manslaughter Andy) The blog is just a stepping stone! As for the 'digital media' question, I have to love and hate both. I love owning actual records and CD's of my favorite bands, but with how young I am, I probably wouldn't have ever had the chance to listen to the bands that I can call my favorites if it wasn't for the internet and downloading. It is what it is! Some fanzines everyone should check out are "SUBCULTURE SPIRIT" my friend my friend Jeff from Canada does with his girlfriend Jenny Woo (She does also amazing acoustic Oi! music, check her out! - Manslaughter Andy), and of course "BREW & HONOUR", Erik Scott is a fucking psycho!

08.) Now coming more intense to the content of your blog: What are the categories that must be imbuesed by bands to get featured on "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY"?
Your band will usually just have to fit in to the Skinhead scene. That's about all. You'll probably have a better chance of getting on the blog if I like your music as well.

09.) You are featuring a lot of different bands, coming from differet parts of the world, first and foremost especially Europe and the States, and that's always a good thing, at least if you ask me. By reading your blog you can get the impression that Oi! and R.A.C. from the central to th southern european states of France, Spain, and Italy is playing a huge important role when it comes to music and your musical socialization, what I think is prety interesting. Can you tell us why, I mean, what is fasinating you so much when it comes to this style of Oi! and R.A.C. music?
Yes, I do tend to cover bands that most people wouldn't think a 25 year old from the States would be into. I'm not sure why that is? I think it's because I give bands a chance even though they don't speak my language. I think a lot of American Skinheads have a problem with listening to lyrics that are not in English. Bands like BÖHSE ONKELZ, KOMINTERN SECT., GOL NORD, YOUNGGANG, and ENDSTUFE should all be at the top of any Skinheads list of bands. But since they don't speak English, they don't get shit for respect in America.

10.) Also some swedish bands are featured on your blog. And yeahr, I think a lot of folks will run amok infront of their computer screens when they read MIDGARDS SÖNER and THE HEADHUNTERS, haha;-). Before we get a little bit deeper into this whole discussion (or how-ever you may like to call it...), what are your thoughts on scandinavian Skinhead/Bootboy music and it's specific character it's bringing to the world of steeltoed musick (for example with Vikingrock and stuff like this)? Beside the two mentioned bands, what are your favorites of the past and the present, and what/which scandinavian bands can we expect to be featured in the future on your blog?
I'm a huge fan of Vikingrock. I love MIDGARDS SÖNER, THE HEADHUNTERS, and ULTIMA THULE, I even like Vikingmetal like AMON AMARTH, and ENSIFERUM. Something about this high notes they do, just get me going, makes me feel like I can take on the world. I think Sweden has a lot of good Oi! bands, though, like STEELCAPPED STRENGTH, UNIT LOST, FORBIDDEN RAGE, PLUTON SVEA, all good bands.

11.) With DONARS GROLL and STÖRKRAFT there are also two german bands featured on your blog. And why you choose STÖRKRAFT? (Okay, I know, why not, haha;-)!?!...) Very controversial (or even more like this) here in Germany in the past, and I think also today for a lot of people a strict 'No Go!' at all. I think a lot of people should finally get aware of it that the band changed a lot in the time of their existence, and that right wing views are not equal with being a Nazi or what the hell ever else. What's your opinion to it, and did you know about the discussion that's going 'round this band, and is this well known in the American Oi! and/or U.S. Skinhead world of today?
I think DONARS GROLL just flat out rocks. STÖRKRAFT has to be probably one of the best bands of all time though. I really think they got a bad rap from back in the day. Yes, I know they were right wing and Nazis and shit. But they took that all back even before they went on trial for your guys stupid speech laws. (Yeahr, and they dare to still call it a democracy what we have over here in Germany!!! - Manslaughter Andy) I don't know too many Skins in America who know about the controversy that surrounds STÖRKRAFT, I actually doubt too many even know wo STÖRKRAFT is. I really don't care about what people think about me for putting them up on the blog. (And that for some good reasons!!! - Manslaughter Andy) Like it or not, they were a huge part of the Skinhead scene.

12.) What I was wondering about the first I read your blog was the fact, that you feature not that many bands from Britain at all. How does it come? I ask, because it's maybe not exactly this what you may expect from an Skinhead blog that's called "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY", if you know what I mean?!? By the way, especially over here in Germany the whole old british bands like for example THE 4 SKINS and INDECENT EXPOSURE do get a huge load of support today after their reunions. It's maybe (still) justified, but somehow I can't kill the thought that this is all more bullshit than anything else, 'cause all the energy, the time, the passion, the work, and the money that gets invested in them should better be invested in young promising bands. But okay, that's just my opinion, haha;-). What do you think about this subject?
The name "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" actually comes from a CRUCIAL CHANGE song that has yet to be recorded. The song has nothing to do with the scene; I just thought it sounded like a cool name for a music blog. The big reason for not too many British bands though is I think it's all been done before. Me writing about THE BUSINESS, THE 4 SKINS, or THE COCKNEY REJECTS would be a waste of people's time. I would rather write about bands only a few Skins from the States know about. That way I have something new to offer. Not to mention I think British Oi! is a little bit played out. Germany, and France had the best bands.

13.) Also some bands from South America made it on your blog. In the very last time I got the impression that especially Brazil has (still) a very strong going Oi! scene to offer these days. What do you think of this? Will there be coming more southern american bands on your blog? I hope so, 'cause a lot of this acts are still very 'exotic' over here, or at least to me, haha;-). Ah, yeahr, and how is the connection between the scenes of the U.S.A. and the scenes of South America in general? I ask because it's one continent, so is there somehing like a 'good link' between the different scenes?
South America seems to have a pretty good scene. Chile has some very dedicated Skinheads, as well as Brazil. BRASSIC just got back from Brazil which they told me was a great experience. They played some shows with BANDEIRA DE COMBATE, who is an amazing band from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I really like the Brazilian bands THE SKULLS and FIST OF STEEL as well.

14.) A question that goes in a very similar direction: How do we have to imagine the connection between the Oi! movements in the U.S.A. and it's 'counterpart' up there in Canada? Something like the clichè rivalry that shall exist between the U.S.A. and Canada, something that is often somehow puported over here, or good friendly (maybe violent;-)...) fun? And what are your thoughts on the Skinhead, Bootboy, Oi! culture of Canada? I think they got a lot of great bands in the past like for example GASSENHAUER, THE GLORY STOMPERS, SUBWAY THUGS, THE NEW BREED, THE RABBLEROUSERS, and THE PROWLERS., and they still do have very good bands up there, just to name ALTERNATE ACTION, NO ALLIANCE, COUP DE MASSE, and BOOTPRINT. What's your opinion 'bout it? And: Any secret hints?
I been to Canada twice to play shows, and let me tell ya, their scene is great. They do their best to sing along even though they don't know the lyrics, and they show respect to everyone that gives respect. None of the gang and the higher Archie shit that has plagued the American scene. I'm a huge fan of COUP DE MASSE, and ALTERNATE ACTION. My BOOTPRINT records are coming in the mail as we speak and I can't wait to play the shit out of those albums. I also liked the band N.F.G. who is not around anymore.

15.) You've written to me that you also like the great THE ANTI-HEROS very much, and there are also some American Oi! bands featured on your blog. I think that there will be also coming more, right? Something in this direction already planned? What are your favorite bands when it comes to the old American Oi! bands from the 1980's and the 1990's, and what bands are just a must-know when it comes to the current breed of American Oi! music? Of course, beide CRUCIAL CHANGE!
America has always had great bands. My favorites are of course THE ANTI-HEROS, and STARS & STRIPES, but I think two of the most unaccredited bands in the American scene are THE KICKER BOYS, and MOONSTOMP. Both bands from Atlanta, both bands rock harder than most the bullshit you hear today. (That's right, and to you, the readers, if you don't know the bands then just check them out. Great bands! There's a compilation of them floating around that contains MONNSTOMPs "THEY NEVER SEE" record and the self-titled record of the THE KICKER BOYS on one disc, released by "Step One Music" going under the 'nick-name' of "28 American Oi! Anthems", so try everything gto get this one. Try it now! - Manslaughter Andy) I'm not a uge fan of American Oi! at the moment. I like the bands BRASSIC, SUCKERED IN, BLEACH BATTALION, and THE AMERISKINS. I think the band FIGHTING 84 has great potential but for now they need to work on their sound. Other than that I would like to take CRUCIAL CHANGE to the top of everyone's list of favorite American Oi! bands.

16.) Now coming to some serious topics, haha;-): Like I've already said above, you're featuring Oi! as well as R.A.C. bands from across the world. At least here in Germany a lot of jackasses would start bashing on you with 'Nazi!' mace and the 'Fascist!' mallet, just because you also introduce some R.A.C. bands. Is the situation in the U.S.A. someway different? And what do you think about it?
My opinion on R.A.C. is this: If you like it, cool! If you don't like it, cool! I don't go out and try to find the most racist or fascist thing I can wrap my head around, I try to find music that I think rocks. I like DIVISION 250 because they rock, I love SKULLHEAD because they rock, I hate NO REMORSE because I think they suck, musically and politically. Americans are weird when it comes to R.A.C. They only listen to early SKREWDRIVER, and BRUTAL ATTACK. If you like anything else it better be Japanese R.A.C. because they are not white. It's really stupid!

17.) Some problems guys do often have with R.A.C. are because of the racist and anti-Semitic stance that especially today a lot of the bands out of this genre do have, this whole White Power NS faggot crap. I have to admit that I can't stand this crap by myself, but at the same time I also have to admit that R.A.C. is not equaling R.A.C., 'cause like nearly everywhere in life also with R.A.C. there are two sides of the story, and a lot of the bands do differ very much from each other, no matter if it's because of the music or because of the lyrics, and this whole White Power NS crap isn't R.A.C. at all. So maybe a lot of guys should better get a real life and start to take care of some real problems of their own out there and stop the defaming hustle. Especially here in Germany it's these days very hard to stand this whole bullshit and anonymous cheap talk via the internet. And also CONDEMNED 84 are called NS, and THE TEMPLARS are defamed as hidden racists and fascists, OXBLOOD are defamed as Nazi Rock, and much more ridiculous stupid shit lik this. Yes, it's truly unbelievable! What's your standpoint when it comes to R.A.C. and the above mentioned problems? Ah, ha, and with this 'insight view' of the two-fisted investigation of the german AFA scene and their investigation results, do you really wanna tell me that it's the same way in the States, haha;-)!?! But, by the way, kick down this PC faggots wherever you meet and can get them!!!

Well, I have my own politics, as I'm sure you have yours, and so on, and so on. I happen to be anti-racist, but I don't need a song to tell you how you think!!! I listen to bands like SKREWDRIVER, and DIVISION 250, because I like their music. When people go out of their way, they are only hurting themselves. They are tearing the scene apart and telling us to unite at the same time. I could give a fuck less about the scene, I'm a Skinhead for myself! (That's some good and true words! - Manslaughter Andy) I don't care who's racist and who's not. Just because I'm a Skinhead doesn't mean I'm friends with everyone else who's a Skinhead. (Damn right! - Manslaughter Andy) But for fuck sake, THE TEMPLARS!!! Phil's black!!! If someone is going to accuse Phil of being racist they are not only stupid but also blind!!! I personally find THE TEMPLARS to be a bad band, that I haven't willingly listened to sense I was 21, but to call them hidden racists is just beyond me.

18.) Beside this, what are your thoughts on SHARP and RASH? I think it's a pity and really sad that SHARP was first occupied by some stupid long haired Hippies wearing SHARP buttons and patches but having nothing to do with it, and also that nowadays SHARP is often taken away it's pure anti-racist stance by turning it into some toy for the AFA and other worthless jackasses like this. I think it's really sad and taking away the 'true' or 'original' or 'real' meaning behind it, if you ask me. And RASH... pretty much the same crap as on the other side the stupid White Power NS Bonehead lowlife scum!!! At least that's how I see it over here in Germany. How's the situation in the States today, and what's your standpoint to it?
I think the whole SHARP and RASH thing is stupid! Why would you want to go out of your way to put a patch on tha says you're anti-racist so that normal people see you and say: "Oh, I guess not all Skinheads are racists!"? If you want to be a Skinhead you should already know what the common person thinks of you. And if you have a problem with what they think, then don't be one!

19.) Okay, beside this all, back to your blog: When will there be finally coming some Skinhead Hardcore featured on it?!? I'm waiting desperatly, haha;-)!!!
I'm a big fan of all Hardcore. Old School, NYHC, Posi, and Straight Edge. You should have to wait long.

20.) Coming slowly to the end of this interview, but the last one or two questions are still waiting for ya, so here we go: The european scene is well known to you, so please tell us about your personal favorite bands from the 'old world', past and present, that you can't go on without?!?
I like too many bands to count. But I'll give you a couple from each country that I cannot live without. UK: SKULLHEAD, COMBAT 84, and VIOLENT STORM. Germany: ENDSTUFE, STÖRKRAFT, and BÖHSE ONKELZ. France: EVIL SKINS, KOMINTERN SECT., and BRUTAL COMBAT. Spain: DIVISION 250, and GLORY BOYS. Sweden: MIDGARDS SÖNER, and ULTIMA THULE. Italy: PLASTIC SURGERY. Belgium: KILL BABY, KILL. R.I.P. Dieter Samoy!!!

21.) Last or better final question of this interview: You are not offering downloads on your blog, why not, and what do you think of downloads in general and 'download blogs' in particular? Ah, and please tell us some of your near future plans with your blog! Would be great!
I don't put up downloads for two reasons. 1st is I don't know how, I'm not very good with computers, and 2nd is I don't really care to. I wanted more of an information blog. If you want to go download albums check out the "ROCK AND RIOT" blog. The next thing for "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" is T-Shirts. I hope to have them ready within three months. (Ryan, I need one! - Manslaughter Andy) I would also like to start releasing albums and comps in the next year. (That can really get great! - Manslaughter Andy)

22.) Yeahr, that's it, I'm through with all the questions on my writing pad, and I think it was already a pretty long interview for you to get worked through, haha;-)!!! So once again, THANX A LOT mate!!! Keep up the damn good work with your blog and stay true to the cause!!! The last words now remain to you!!! The best Greetings from Germany, keep in touch!!! Cheers & Oi!, Andy!!!
Thank you Andy for the interview, and thank you to all the people who read the blog!!! Stay tuned there is a lot gto come!!!

Yeahr guys, that's all, that was the interview with Ryan and "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY". Like I've already said, he'd done a great job with his answers, speaking the truth, so that it became a damn good and strong interview, THANKS Ryan and keep in touch!!! And you, the readers, now go and check out the "THE SPIRIT OF YESTERDAY" blog, one of the very best blogs on the web!!! And you can check the blog by clicking on the http://thespiritofyesterdayoi.blogspot.com/ link!!! Cheers & Oi!

Bootboys der alten Schule aus DOi!tschland ... Old School Bootboys from Germoney!

MPU - "BOOT BOYS DER ALTEN SCHULE" ("O.P.O.S. Records"; CD):
I've already announced yesterday that for some folks things will start to become a little bit controversial (or how-ever you may like to call it) in the future here on this blog, and what shall I say, the future is now, haha;-). A friend of mine got this CD and he meant to me, after he stipulated again and again that I should finally shave my head again clean, haha;-): "Take a listen to this guys here, very good stuff, and don't think twice just because of the label that's releasing the CD." I decided that he was (and is) right, at least when it comes to taking some listeningsessionswith and to this CD;-). And yes, "O.P.O.S. Records" (= "One People One Struggle Records") is a what-so-ever right wing or maybe even neo-fascist label from Germany, and MPU are a new band with members of the "WHITE REBEL BOYS", "WHITE RESISTANCE", and also "RAC'n'Roll Teufel" (= "RAC'n'Roll Devil"), oh, oh, oh, and whoaa, you see which direction this all takes here, haha;-), just to judge by the name of the bands. But I know none of this bands and also not one single other release of the label beside this record. I don't know how far into some racist or what-so-ever crap bands and label are, but at the end of the day it's also jut not that important to me that much anymore, to be honest. If it's that important to you, then go and check this stuff by yourself, or even better, get a real life!!! This is a band from Germany playing Old School German Skinhead Rock, and when somebody who knows me thinks that a german band of this genre should know to convince me, then... yeahr, I was really excited what this band would had to offer. And what they do offer? Also the bandmembers looking not really that grown up and not really that much old school, more young and new school and with some strange hairdos on their heads, they are playing a really old school German Skinhead Rock sound, like it was bred in the 1990's and founded back in the 1980's. Mostly well quick paced songs, all marked strongly by some creaking rumbling drums, odd bubbling bass playing, some stubborn bolting guitar playing, a big bunch of full throaty back up shouts, and some blunt and gruff lead vocals, but the singer is lacking a lot of passion and energy and charakter, as well as the songwriting is very uniform and gets constantly over the distance of the eleven tracks (one intro and ten songs) more and more boring, hm, and the best ones 'on' their instruments are they also not really, to say it that way. So yes, it's old school, but not the good but the boring one. The record starts very strong after the nice little intro with "BOOTBOYS DER ALTEN SCHULE"and "ES IST AUCH DEIN LAND" (also good lyrics), two really good and very strong tracks, but then things start to become more and more boring with really terrible tracks like "POPSTAR", "NUR EIN BISSCHEN SPASS", "UNGEBROCHEN", and especially the horrible german Rechtsrock ballad "WERDEN WR UNS WIEDER SEHEN?", bah, but thank the gods (or whom or what ever) that with "KEINER VON UNS" finally comes a really strong song again. If just the singer wouldn't make that much kaput nearly every time. But okay, also the next song "BOOTBOi! FOR LIFE" is a really strong smasher, old school of the good kind, and that's also making me to forget about stupid crap lyrics like "MIT DEN DOC'S AN MEINEN FÜSSEN, JA DA FÜHLE ICH MICH GUT, REINES BLUT IN MEINEN ADERN, IN DEN FÄUSTEN DEUSCHE WUT! (...)" (= "WITH MY DOC MARTEN'S ON MY FEET I FEEL FINE, PURE BLOOD IS RUNNING THROUGH MY VEINS, AND IN MY FISTS THERE'S GERMAN FURY!"). After this two tracks there's coming "KRANKE WELT", oh, oh, oh, guys, if you work with pathos make sure you can work with it, which means you know how to play your instruments a lot better and how to write songs that are really grapping and not just involuntary funny, ah, and maybe your singer should take some lessons in singing after he seems to wish to sound like a guy that's singing in a Gothic Rock or Death Rock band, if you know what I mean. Also the last song, called "DAS LETZTE LIED", is a song that you just don't need to listen to, damn is this terrible and boring stuff, and who told them that they could play an acoustic song... and who told the singer he could sing the vocals of an acoustic song?!? Who ever that was, the guy should be send in the sand infront of an angry and with stones armed mob of islamofascist scum down there in the shithole called the Middle East. And yes, I save myelf every word when it comes to the hidden bonus track... When it comes to the lyrics we do get a bunch of what you may already expect to get: For the guys in MPU Skinhead = (at least) Nationalist and so we do get a lot of what is to them the Skinhead Way of Life (...), some stuff that's critical on society and the ruling fucked up policy, drinking songs, songs against casted T.V. plastic popstars, and more stuff like this. Nothing anyhow 'special' or what-so-ever at all, comparable to the music, if you know what I mean... The artwork looks really good and nice, also really old school, and the raw and rough production sound really is a good one. So, just let us their political agenda forget, or even if you don't want to forget about it (no matter because of which reasons ever...), be sure, you really don't have to earn this record. A nice intro and four good songs, that's all what they own here, and five times we do get total crap songs that really no one at all needs (even if you are on their side of the political agenda, and even if you like such music MPU are playing, even then I could bet that there are a lot of better bands out there then this stuff here...), and that should make clear that you also don't need that record. Hm, maybe they would like to sound like ENDSTUFE and bands like this, but they are really lacking any what-so-ever ability to reach this goal at all. So, all you PC idiots out there, calm your mood, you don't have to order this record from some obscure swell outs and hide it from your friends... No, guys, that's pretty much crap what you get here, so forget about this one here, and maybe MPU should also forget about it or, if they've planned to do a new record, they should work at least really strong on their abilities to make music at all, and yes, I'm damn lucks that I know nothing of their other bands out there after their skills and potentials aren't even enough for ths one singl band or project here... And I really have to have a serious talk with my dude who gave me this record, haha;-). (4 of 10 points)
(And now do you get the link to their MySpace site or did you've expect that I would not name it here... Oh come on guys...)
(By the way, the bandname MPU is coming from the german concept called 'MPU' and that is a german procedure that you have to go through if you've lost your driving license for example due to alcohol abuse and stuff like that, and it's colloqiually called 'Idiotentest' wht you may translate as 'Idiottest'... and if you now get it done to build a connection between this and the music that they're playing here on this record, then you're maybe right, haha;-)...)

... spreading so much fear, never know the end is near...

Hey folks,
I'm back with a new vey little post for this day. You know, I've started working again this week, my summer vacation is over and so time is slipping away currently. Also I've got plenty of stuff this days to do and so I'm currently missing right now a little bit the time to keep the 'posting pace' of the last weeks up, but don't worry too much, 'cause I'll keep the work up and a lot stuff will be coming soon, 'one' after 'another', no hurry, but stay tuned. I've already announced you some new interviews that are in the work (check the last 'News' postings) and will be coming, also will be some new 'Sports' postings coming very soon, and a bunch of new zines and records are waiting to be reviewed by me, the 'American Oi! History Series' will be continued very soon, and also some complete new stuff is in the making for the coming weeks or so, so you see, things are still 'under fire' when it comes to this very blog here. So yeahr, I'm back home today after I've spent a great day with my chica amante in Leipzig over in East Germany. We went to the once (?) or still (?) controversial exposition called "Körperwelten" (maybe to translate as "Bodyworlds" or so...) with this whole 'rehashed dead people' from where the hells knows where. I can tell ya, it's a great exposition!!! If you're interested in stuff like this, don't know, call it 'art' or 'culture' or 'science' or maybe 'arty culture-scienece' or 'anatomy-art' or how-ever, then you should really go 'cause you should have to see this great exhibition. But that's another story. So yes, back home, damn tired (not at least because of this whole 'drving cross the nation' tour to Leipzig and back again through Germany) I thought that I could post a nice new one for ya, and after listening to the WRECKING CREW very often the last time it's a 'Videos' goody of them for you.
(By the way, maybe with some bands introduced and records reviewed the next time things will maybe get a little bit more controversial for some guys the next time, but you know what, all you bleeding heart faggots, I just don't care about you, your problems, your crap cheap talk and your world, so fuck off, get your arse up and get a real life where you have to deal with real life issues!!!)
The WRECKING CREW had been a great Hardcore band from Boston of the late 1980's and early 1990's, they played a style of music you might call Metal Core the Old School way, no Emo and/or Screamo stuff in it, no Death Metal crap, no Black Metal circus, just a metallic Hardcore sound that you have to love if you also use to listen with pleasure to S.O.D., M.O.D., CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER, and D.R.I., and stuff like that. But the WRECKING CREW really played a style very much of their own, be sure about that!!! I will also put an review of their re-release version of the "BALANCE OF TERROR" masterpiece (released some time ago by "I Scream Records") up and ready and online the next time, then you'll get to know more about them and their history and their music, but that's some 'futur-musick' or so, so now to the video here. It's a video of or to their great track "WHY MUST THEY?" that you can also find on the above already mentioned "BALANCE OF TERROR" masterpiece. Great band, great music, great song, great lyrics, and a great video, ha, guess that's making this one here also a great post, or what else, haha;-)!!! You'll get the video after this words here, but now fisrt straight on to the lyrics:

WRECKING CREW - "WHY MUST THEY?"
"Living in a world like this / looking for the answers inside / Searching for the truth / Never know when you win or lose /// People who tell lies / things are different in their eyes / Spreading so much fear / Never know the end is near /// WHY MUST THEY? (4x)"
So, and now here comes the video, and yeahr, it's a nice one, so enjoy it:

... guilty of being white, guilty of being right? ...

Hey folks out there,

it's 'Videos' time again. I'm currently listen to a lot of Old School Hardcore and I really thought that it's about time to give credit to one of the truly greatest bands of all time, the ones who were the inventors of what we all should know now as xStraight Edge Hardcorex, the great and legendary MINOR THREAT. I've chosen my total favorite track "GUILTY OF BEING WHITE" (especially lyrically a real masterpiece of one of a kind, and it sucks that such lyrics aren't written still today by also 'progressive' bands, 'cause now-a-days even MINOR THREAT get attacked because of this song for being racists or so, and I don't have to tell ya all how stupid this is), and after it's about MINOR THREAT I have to admit that I just can't go without their ultimate anthem "STRAIGHT EDGE". Both songs are live recordings and live videos from out of the golden 1980's, and "GUILTY OF BEING WHITE" is started with a nice little spoken word introduction of Ian MacKaye, and "STRAIGHT EDGE" they do start with some 'spacy' psychedelic Rock musical introduction. Cool!!! You now also get the lyrics to the two songs, before you get the videos, and okay, then just enjoy the nice little video clips. And guys, even I am not xStraight Edgex by myself (but never-the-less a Vegetarian) it don't mean that I have any kind of a 'bad attitude' about the xStraight Edgex movement, and I really don't give a fuck about what-so-ever trendy wankers that are maybe giving xStraight Edge Hardcorex now-a-days a bad name. And being against drugs is always a good thing!!! (As well as being against drug using scum!!!) After all: Great stuff!!!

Now come the lyrics before you do get the clips:
MINOR THREAT - "GUILTY OF BEING WHITE"
"I'm sorry for something I didn't do / Lynched somebody but I don't know who / You blame me for slavery a hundred years before I was born / GUILTY OF BEING WHITE / I'm a convict of a racist crime / I've only served 19 yeas of my time / GUILTY OF BEING WHITE"
MINOR THREAT - "STRAIGHT EDGE"
"I'm a person just like you / But I've got better things to do/ Than sit around and fuck my head / Hang out with the living dead / Snort white shit up my nose / Pass out at the shows / I don't even think about speed / That's something I just don't need / I'VE GOT THE STRAIGHT EDGE / I'm a person just like you / But I've got better things to do / Than sit around and smoke dope / Cause I know I can cope / Laugh at the thought of eating ludes / Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue / Always wanna keep in touch / Never want to use a crutch / I'VE GOT THE STRAIGHT EDGE"
So now you get the two live video clips:

MINOR THREAT - "GUILTY OF BEING WHITE"

MINOR THREAT - "STRAIGHT EDGE"

Oi! Oi! Oi! Brazil

TROPEL - "PELA GLORIA DAS RUAS" ("Skins On Attack Records"; CD):
Okay, it's a little bit older, released some time back in 2007 I guess, but I just got it now. You know, too many bands out there so you can surely miss one or two and so with their records. TROPEL are a brazlian band and that's for what I know their first record at all after their demo, ah, and of the demo you can find three songs also here on this record. Ah, the label that's releasing it is a german one for what I know, but I don't know anything about it. Hm, but the logo is strange, two MP-40 Wehrmacht Machine Pistols crossed over an trojan helmet?!? WTF?!? But okay, how-ever, now to TROPEL: Brazilian band singing in brazilian language, playing very hard, yet melodic old school Oi!, marked by the brutal voice of the lead singer as well as the crushing guitar playing. All damn hard and aggressiv, yet melodic and very sing-a-long compatible, at least if you can speak the language, haha;-). It's nothing overly exciting or special or so, good solid stuff, maybe to be announced as a brazilian version of CONDEMNED 84 or maybe even RETALIATOR. So you should know what you get, very hard Skinhead Oi!, but that's also not lacking of good melodies and some really hymnal moments. Very aggressive, and the very violent lyrics really fit perfectly. It comes in a very good artwork, with linernotes and english translation of the lyrics, and a very rough and raw and dirty production sound. It's a short review, I know, but here's nothing left to say at this point anymore, so that's it. Pretty good stuff!!! Give it a try, if you like hard and angry rockin' old style Skinhead Oi! musick!!! (7 of 10 points)

... "this song goes out to the fat nazi piece of shit who's got our tattoo without our permission in the movie 'american history x'!"...

'American Oi! History Series' - The next stop: Atlanta, Georgia, then following the road further through the States to the homegrounds of THE ALMIGHTY LUMBERJACKS OF DEATH, MOONSTOMP, ARRESTING OFFICERS, NEW GLORY, and not to forget the YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE and the mighty STARS AND STRIPES.
But for now here do come:
THE ANTI-HEROS from Atlanta, Georgia/U.S.A.
Hey folks,

I know, it's really about time that the 'American Oi! History Series' here on this very blog gets continued, yeahr, it's really about time, and so that's what I do now here. After taking a trip to the Westcoast of the United States we're heading down towards the South to go to Atlanta down in Georgia, 'cause here we are to pay our tribute to one of the very best Oi! & Streetpunk bands, not only when it comes to American Oi! music but even rather more when it comes to 'global' Oi! music. You want to know which band this is? Okay, I tell it to ya: THE ANTI-HEROS!!! Yes, it's true, 'cause THE ANTI-HEROS are here!!! A great and very important band, hm, and maybe one of the very few if not the only American Oi! band of the golden 1980's that went straight ahead into the maybe even more golden 1990's era of U.S. Oi! music without losing any of their relevance, no losing but rather gaining more relevance and reputation. And yes, they had always been great, but for sure, if you ask me, they also became even more better and stronger during the 1990's, yeahr, for sure!!!
So, okay, when did it where with whom all started?!? THE ANTI-HEROS were formed back in 1984 (ha, hey, in 1984 I was or I became three years old, haha;-)... just thought I should let you know this, don't ask me why;-)...) by Mark Noah, Mike Jones, and their buddies Mark and Phil. With this bandmembers they should record two records at all, the two great releases "THAT'S RIGHT" and "DON'T TREAD ON ME". "THAT'S RIGHT" was released back in 1987, and "DON'T TREAD ON ME" one year later back in 1988. Both records should came out via "Link Records". But, you know, this label was nothing than a farce, paying not a single poor dime to all the bands that released their stuff via their business channels. But both records should later be re-released in a complete package, coming from the label of Mark Noah himself called "G.M.M. Records", so there's no problem with getting them still from somewhere nowadays, and so you see, excuses why you not have them aren't existing at all. Because of the bad experiences with "Link Records", or maybe because of this fact, Mark Noah should later found one of the best American Oi! labels around called "G.M.M. Records", releasing great acts like for example PATRIOT and PRESSURE POINT (to both bands we will come later in this 'American Oi! History Series' as soon as we'll reach the glorious 1990's years of American Oi! and going up to the present day, so be sure about and prepared for this). Ah, some last words to "Link Records": They've also released the great and legendary "THE U.S. OF Oi!" sampler that featured brilliant bands like the YOUTH DEFENSE LEAGUE, IMMORAL DISCIPLINE, MOONSTOMP, THE KICKER BOYS, WARZONE, THE UPRISE, THE BOOT BOYS, and also THE ANTI-HEROS. So you see, a brilliant, important and necessary sampler that you should really call your own. Hm, maybe I will post someday a solely entry about and to this great and historical and important sampler, time will tell. Okay, where had we've been?!? Ah, exactly, they've released the two above mentioned records in 1987 and 1988, and also they were featured on a bunch of important sampler records during the 1980's. They've worked themselves a very well reputation, but in the August of the year of 1989 they decided to call it a day and defunct the band. That was it for the first time with THE ANTI-HEROS.
But in 1993 they came back with a partly new cast of band members, so they recruited the former CONDEMNED 84 guitarist Mark Magee (one hell of a good guitar player). They've released the 7" vinyl single "ELECTION DAY" featuring three tracks at all, "ELECTION DAY", "Oi!", and "YOU'LL NEVER PUT US DOWN", the single was released via "G.M.M. Records" and have had some strong political issues that it dealt with. One main issue of "ELECTION DAY" and also of the following years of THE ANTI-HEROS should become the election of Bill Clinton to become the president of the United States of America. One issue not only THE ANTI-HEROS dealt with during the 1990's. In 1995 via "G.M.M. Records" the CD EP "MURDER ONE" came out. The cover of the record you do see above, and it was the reason why THE ANTI-HEROS get started to being defamed as racists. Bullshit!!! You just should read the lyrics that deal with three fucking worthless upper class rich kids scumbags that had been killing a bum, beating him for the fun of it to the death and the lyrics close with the verse of "SCUM LIKE YOU DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE FREE / I THINK YOU'D LOOK GOOD HANGING FROM A TREE / NO REMORSE WHEN YOUR DEALT ALL OF THE SPADES / I HOPE YOU GET RAPED IN JAIL AND DIE OF AIDS", damn true words and before you all scream "Racists!" better start reading and understanding the lyrics of the bands that you are defaming, stupid jackasses!!!
Two years later in 1997 their masterpiece "AMERICAN PIE" was released by "Taang! Records". It was an already very outspoken and political record, and it was and is really a brilliant piece of music. To point it out, you need to have every single release of them that you can get, truly every release, but if you're asking yourself where to start, then make sure that you start with this one here, with the "AMERICAN PIE". Take care of it!!!
In 1997 they also released a split 7" vinyl single with BLANKS 77 from New Jersey, featuring two THE ANTI-HEROS tracks ("TRUCK STOP TOILET" and "AT THE EDGE") and one of BLANKS 77 ("I DON'T WANNA BE"). This split single was released via "Radical Records", and yes, like I've already said, in 1997. Beside this single they've also released a bunch of other rare singles, live as well as studio recordings, and other splits, for example with the DROPKICK MURPHYS from Boston, MA. Also they were featured on a lot of important sampler records of the 1990's, like for example the already legendary "THE BACKSTREETS OF AMERICAN Oi!" sampler compilation. And they were also featured on the legendary "LIVE ON A FIVE" single series put out by "HEADACHE RECORDS". During the 1990's beside Mark Magee also Don Shumate (aka 'El Guapo') joined the ranks of THE ANTI-HEROS, after he'd played before the drums in TIME BOMB '77. In 1999 they released their up to this present day final record called "UNDERNEATH THE UNDERGROUND". It's their most outspoken and political record, for sure, and it came out via "G.M.M. Records". Also a great piece of American Oi! music. Beside this they also released the very good live record "1.000 NIGHTS OF CHAOS" that you also should take a good listen to. Don't miss it!!! Point and fact!!!
No matter if you take the lyrics or the music THE ANTI-HEROS haven't lost anything of their relevance and reputation to the present day, and if you ask me, they've also earned themselves much more of it, yeahr, for sure!!! Lyrically critical of society and the scene, anti-racist, and more and more outspoken political, and especially the 'liberal dictator' Bill Clinton and his administration and policy really were 'golden goals' of them. And their dustrdry and bonecracking hard and sharp forwad driven American Oi! really is still today just brilliant and damn great stuff, very unique, characteristic and stand-alone, a very important influence for a huge load of bands out there, and better than all the rest, for sure!!! I love this band!!! Check them out!!! Better yesterday than today!!! Oi! Oi! Oi!
By the way they also had a lawsuit going against the guys that done the blockbuster movie "American History X", 'cause these bunch of jackasses used the logo of THE ANTI-HEROS as an tattoo of the fat Nazi piece of shit in or of that movie, without having any permission of the band to do that. Very good!!! And it was also succesful and the movie making jackasses had to remove the tattoo digitally of every scene it was featured in. Again: Very good!!! Maybe they also made some money out of it, I would have wished it them for sure!!! They also made a brilliant cover of the SKREWDRIVER classic "ANTISOCIAL" with a little bit changed lyrics and the spoke word intro that you can read above as the header of this entry here. And yes, damn it, it's awesome!!!
Even if in 1999 the last studio recording of them saw the light of the day they had neer officially defunct the band, so let us hope that one day there will be coming again a new brilliant record of this great band!!! Until then go and buy their records, read their lyrics, and get their message, ah, and here comes an link to an THE ANTI-HEROS MySpace profile, where you can go by clicking on the http://www.myspace.com/theantiheros link. I hope you enjoyed this little tribute to one of the to me most important bands, and make sure that you'll check them out as soon as possible!!! Cheers & Oi!

The TEMPLARS, the Oi! Fanatiques from New York City

Hey guys,
I know it's been quit a while since I've uploaded the last only 'Video(s)' entry for you here on this very blog, but okay, here a new one comes for ya.
I've found two great videos of one of my absolutely all time favorite bands, the great TEMPLARS from New York City!!! Fantastic American Oi!, and by the way, they are truly one of the best, the damn true elite!!! I won't say more to them, 'cause sooner or later the 'American Oi! History Series' here on this blog will be finally coming to the 1990's, and hell yeahr, then this great band will be a part of it, you can be sure about this!!!
I really love this band and their music, their songs, their lyrics, their message, and that's also and especially the case with this two fantastic anthems here!!! Also great videos!!! So just enjoy it!!! Cheers & Oi! to the TEMPLARS, NYC!!!

TEMPLARS - "SAVING GRACE"

TEMPLARS - "STICK TO YOUR GUNS"

*** UNDER JOLLY ROGER ***

THE OLD SOULS - "ROCK & ROLL CURSE" ("Pure Impact Records"; CD): Oh, this could get tough, trouble's ahead, haha;-)!!! After already 'evil' bands like ENDSTUFE, TMF, ULTIMA THULE, GLORY BOYS, SKINFULL, oh, and not to forget the 'more evil than the devil himself' worst german WP NS Boneheads of the KRAWALLBRÜDER here comes a review of THE OLD SOULS. And here some folks will really will run amok infront of their computer screens. Why this here is so, hm, let us call it controversial? This is the new band of the two folks Roy and Tom, both are or maybe had been (?) members of the White Power NS Punk band FINAL WAR... Okay, did you started breathing again?!? Well, then ahead!!! THE OLD SOULS are their new band, like already mentioned before, and they recruited a guy named Ben who's doing the singing here in this band and on this record. It came out at the end of 2008 via "Pure Impact Records". Ben, who's doing the singing, shall be without any White Power attitude and sympathies, for what I've read on the web. Also I've read that the both, Roy and Tom, shall be walking somewhat like away from the White Power music, Nazi Punk scenery. But I don't know it... and I also don't give a damn about it at all at the end of the day!!! And also this record here is basically free of politics, and it's free of this WP NS faggot crap. Okay, I think it's not totally free of politics or some 'weltanschauung-issues' at all, 'cause tracks like "OLD SOULS REBORN", "TAKE ME", and "UN ITALIA!" are very, hm, very 'proud of your heritage', but for what I do think in no any 'evil' way at all, haha;-), so it's more than okay with me!!! Of this WP NS 14/88 Hate Rock music I never was a fan, never worked into it, never will, too much stupidity and mentally and intellectual incest (if only that...) in it. So I was not that attracted by this release at first, and that's the reason why I just got it more or less now a days. Okay, so what do we get here after all this 'serious political stuff'?!? We get really good Punkrock music, that I can tell ya for sure, very, very well-done (these guys really know how to play their instruments, and you know what, they know even better how to write grapping music and such songs). It's a very stand-alone hard, yet very melodic Punkrock musick cocktail that you get to hear here. Maybe just somehow to locate between the energetic and more Punk than Rock songs of SOCIAL DISTORTION and the better BAD RELIGION records, but all in all with a huge load of Streetpunk charm to it. And it's all done very stand-alone and marked by the great and somtimes even brilliant guitar work. Also we do get cool lyrics, good done, piracy, nordic mythology, rebellion, some kind of 'patriotism', and more stuff like this. Ha, and since RUNNING WILD back in the long, long ago days I pretty much think that no other 'Pirate' band knew to convince me that much, haha;-). My favorites? Okay, here we go, the forward pushing opener "GRIM REAPER FLIES", the hard stomper "OLD SOULS REBORN", the very melodic and 'stormy' "TAKE ME", the groovy anthem "UNDER JOLLY ROGER", the very catchy and hymnal "UN ITALIA!", the brilliant "LOST AT SEA" (that's a great one, just take a listen to the fantastic guitar leads, and yes, haha, this leads could also be written by the above mentioned RUNNING WILD, whatever this may mean, haha;-)...), and also the angry smasher "BORN IN DECADENCE". If there weren't crap songs like "VOKS GONE INSANE" (WTF?!?), "FUCK DECENCY", and "PITCHFORK MOB" they would get an even better rating. But how-ever, if you're looking for some really good and pretty unique Punkrock record to listen to, make sure that you give this band and record a really fair and good try, no matter what the 'fence watchers' preach and may say. Really good stuff!!! Hopefully there will be coming more of them!!! (8 of 10 points)
(Sorry guys, damn it, but somehow I couldn't find an homepage or MySpace profile of them, and also even not one single video... don't ask me what the hell is going on here after you can usually find everything you may search for on the web... damn it, so you just have to stay with my review... like in a real fanzine, haha;-)!!!)
