("Per Koro Records"; LP & MP3-Download):
Whooaaa, this is a bruner, I'm totally overpowered by this one!!! PLANKS are a metallic Hardcore band from Germany that have released by the end of 2010 (or something like this) their newest record here, "THE DARKEST OF GRAYS", some sort of a very interesting and intellectual demanding concept album. It was released as an LP version (I guess limited and all that stuff) by the (to me totally unknown) "PER KORO RECORDS" label, and I really felt the need to review it up here finally (because it's out for some few time now) and/or already (because I only call it my own for a relatively short while now), even I currently just own the officially authorized MP3-Download-Version and not yet the LP version, but I do anything that this hopefully will change pretty soon. (Ah, and a CD version shall also be in the works currently.) PLANKS are around for quite a while now already, but they had been somehow totally under my radar so far until yet. Shame on me!!! So, yeahr, this here is or better was my first date and time with PLANKS. Fuck it, and how great it was and still is!!! PLANKS do truly play some sheer heavy and forceful metallic Hardcore like it was meant to be and born and bred by legendary, fantastic, immortal and larger-than-life acts like INTEGRITY, INTEG2000, FEAR TOMORROW, and IN COLD BLOOD, but they do it in a totally and complete and hard-to-believe-that-it-is-true stand-alone way of style and sound, that it is really incredible. They combine their brilliant metallic Hardcore with a heavy dose of Sludge Core (just listen to the pretty down-paced grooves that weigh loads of hard'n'heavy tons of dirt and rusty steel), and especially a truly heavy, heavy dose of Ambient Metal (like NEUROSIS or the some days ago also reviewed CHRONOS), Progressive Metal/Rock impressions, and even Black Metal (somehow I think especially of acts and stuff like for example TAAKE, just listen to some of the guitar leads and melodies, get aware of this totally desolate and intense atmosphere, and also take a good listen to some of the guitar textures) and also some (even only very,) very few Gothic reminiscences (again, the melodies and harmonies), all cultivated with some unbroken Hardcore and Punk spirit to it, and they create really something awesomely (I really like this word, hm, but it is truly exciting anyhow, haha;-)...) unique like you not get it to hear it these days very often. Very suprising and exciting and demanding stuff, damn it, holy shit that's full of suprises, crazy and especially complex and multi-layered rhythm structures and changes, they do create an incredible intense atmosphere, the guitar work is brilliant and very, very, very well-versed and also multi-layered as fuck, too, and not to forget about the incredible intense and emotional-extreme vokillz, and also some totally suprising stuff they do also deliver to us here on this one. Brilliant and suprising and grapping songwriting, yeahr, and hell, these guys know to play. Hm, and if you like the great ILLS from Finland you will also like PLANKS. And by the way, this here, PLANKS and "THE DARKEST OF GRAYS", is also fucking Psycho! This is truly a fantastic record!!! You need to have it!!! All coming with great and damn interesting lyrics, the artwork looks fantastic like the music does sound, and the production sound, very warm, clear and transparent, yet very powerful, is just great. Great like this whole record!!! This is awesome!!! If ya want to know about my personal favorites, okay, "THE DEAD RETURN TO WAR", "SCARLET INSIDE", "TENTACLES (SOLITUDE PREVAILS)", "LONG LIVE DEPRAVITY", "THE DARKEST OF GRAYS", "SACRED AND SECRET", and "A CASKET CITY" (I would bet you wouldn't expect this one to come on this record by this band). I love this record!!! Try everything to get it, at least download it and then go and search and find and buy the LP (and/or soon the CD). If you are searching for something very unique these days and if ya're into extreme music, damn it, then to get this record is nothing else then your damn bloody fuckin' duty!!!(And if you've watched the PLANKS video that I've posted yesterday or so you do already know about this.) And don't say that I haven't told ya so!!! Definitely one of the best records of 2010, that will be very hard to beat also and even in this still pretty new year of 2011. Get it!!!! Now!!! Awesome!!!
