("D.I.Y."; MP3 Download):
This is something pretty new and it's really damn outstanding and very unique stuff. SUNSMASHER are a new band from out of the highs and dephts of Scotland and they are emerging from the scottish Hardcore, Crustcore and Grindcore scene, and have come together to create SUNSMASHER and with it their very own style of extreme, intense, and damn emotional and passionate music, somewhere to be located between Sludge Core, Doom Metal and Crustcore as well as classic traditional D-Beat, and yes, it now sounds by reading it not only pretty unique and interesting, it is really also this when you're listening to it. This is the first (?) demo release by this scottish roughnecks, and it was solely released as a digital MP3 download (at the beginning of this very ear of 2011) that you can currently still get at the BandCamp site of SUNSMASHER (the link will follow at the end of this review, you can be sure about it so just calm down), and we get five songs at all and in total, and the only problem is that this is much too less material of this great band. Like I've already said do they blend Sludge Core and Doom Metal with Crustcore and traditional D-Beat Hardcore Punk music to one hell of cocktail of sick and sickening music(k) that's called (by the band itself) nothing else than 'Crust Doom' and that for some damn good reasons. The demo starts off with the great opener "MUJERES LIBRES", a wrecking beast of a song. Slow and ultra-heavy mid pace of the song, a lot of distortion and noise in the play of the bass and the riffing of the guitars, pounding and thundering drums, heavy doses of Sludge and massive loads of Doom, all done in a great and grapping way of songwriting and with the needed skills to do it more than 'just' convincing. The song is milling forward like a ultra-heavy tank over the skull-and-bones-covered battlefield to reach its climax in the great and sheer absurd lead and solo firework, while the extreme suffering screamed and throaty gasping vokillz do roll over any resistance on the way to this climax down and into the ground. Also a lot of classical psychedelic (1970's) Rock reminiscences are to be discovered, especially when it comes to the riffing of the guitars. Awesome!!! And what hell of a great intense and tight atmosphere!!! Awesome!!! After this comes "JOYLESS", a weird and sickening crazy Noise like guitar 'playing' intermezzo, that's really wrecking down your ears leaving thm empty for the next one, "OH, MISERY". And here they do melt Crustcore and D-Beat really totally perfectly with Sludge and Doom and Stoner into one hell of 'Crust Doom' song. The song is a pretty aggressive and desperate Crustcore/D-Beat hammer, cultivated by some Sludge like riffing (even much faster then you're used to it) and the again really incredible intense and suffering, yet forceful and 'revolting' lead vocals, all to grow and come alive grown up when the song floats over into one hell of a Doom anthem marked by the outstanding guitar solo work to let this song go and float into one deep and heroin infected sludgy Doom swamp, perfectly delivered by this great band!!! Next up is "THE TEMPLE", and this is again a truly perfect combination of desperate and sinister Crustcore/D-Beat and with some Sludge and a lot of heavy classical 1970's psychedelic Rock impressions in it, also all through and through flowing and organic stuff, all marked by the (once again) outstanding intense and extreme pure emotional vocals and especially the shining and brilliant guitar playing, especially the incredible great and long (but never 'off-ticking') solo work, before a heavy Noise Distortion rumour is closing down this song, is really phenomenal. Yeahr, is this great!!! Last one up is the maybe most diverse track, "DAEMONOLOGIE", a good and heavy load of breaks and changes of the style and also the mood of the song , from Crust and D-Beat (combined with some few Hardcore roots to it) over Sludge and Doom to Stoner and old school (yet damn fresh) classical psychedelic Rock music and all flowing rapidly into each and another and to go dissonantly slower and slower over the final time of the song, after a heavy rockin' outbreak of rage in the middle of the track, and all marked by a perfect 'playing-together-thing' of the desperatly and demolishing lead vocals, sick suffering back up chants, fulminant guitar work, and an outstandig tight and über-hard rhythm section, and how good they are in playing their instruments and especially how great they are when it comes to the songwriting SUNSMASHER really do display us here perfectly, and the atmosphere is incredible tight and intense, full of emotions and passion, that's just great and even more than this!!! Amazing!!! SUNSMASHER took me the very first second when I first heard the opening riff of the first track of this demo and they really kept me and my attention over all the time, and how grapping they do what they do here, fantastic!!! The production sound is also full of distortion and very raw and dirty, but in no way a bullshit but oh so 'true' basement recording sound, no, but ti's really great stuff and totally perfect to this music fitting, the artwork (okay, the frontcover, more isn't there anyhow at all) looks just great and really gives you a good impression of the desperate coldness SUNSMASHER do give us here to experience, hm, and about the lyrics I can't really tell ya that much and so I won't say a word about them anyhow before I would tell ya now some otal non-sense crap. I hope that they will come up with more phenomenal stuff like this asap and hopefully a good label will make them soon a fair and good offer so that we all hopefully can asap enjoy a proper release of this greatness of SUNSMASHER. 'Crust Doom'?!? I became an addict of it!!! Check them out and get this release, you would miss some total stand-alone stuff!!! Get it!!! Cheers!!! (Ah, and a 'Videos' post of SUNSMASHER will follow soon also.) (9 of 10 points)
