Rocket Roll on the mision transmission...

THE PHENOMENAUTS - "MISSION TRANSMISSION..."
("Springman Records"; 7''):
Here it is, the 7'' of THE PHENOMENAUTS that I've bought at their concert in the "Gearbox" in Braunschweig, just read the entry of yesterday (or so) to get some more informations about this happening, and now you get the review of this 7'' record to read. Like I've written already in the gig report of their mentioned concert they had been a totally unknown band to me before this concert and I can't really tell ya why, because they have already quite a impreeive bunch of releases out and I decided to buy their 7'' single, even it costed me 7,00 Euro and a CD (even their newest full length CD album) would have costed me just 3,00 Euro more (so, if ya're not that much into mathematics, a full length CD would have costed 10,00 Euro in total), but what shall I say, I'm a vinyl and especially a 7'' nerd, yehp, and so I got two tracks instead of something like ten or so of them, good deal, haha;-). Okay, the 7'' comes in white wax vinyl and with a big centre hole in the middle so that you need to have and use an 45 adapter to play and listen to it on your record player at home, yeahr, and that's damn cool old school, for sure!!! Great!!! And then also white vinyl, even more great!!! Ah, and before I forget it, this 7'' was recorded and released (don't ask me anything about the lael, I have not a singe clue at al about it...) already back in 2003, hm, but after it's my first record experience with them I will do a review of it anyhow. Yes, I'm so goddamn fucking egoistic, haha;-). Okay, two songs at all we do get. Side A(lpha) kicks off strong with their hymnal smasher (or smashing hymn) "I AM ROBOT" (even they use to sing "I am a robot...", I know), and that's a great combination of a strong classical Rockabilly rhythm as the concrete of this song, 'clicking' stand-up-bass and that typical Rockabilly drumming and also this typical Rockabilly rhythm structure, it's all there, and a great very strong Country sounding guitar lead dictates the direction of the song, that pretty soon gets cultivated with some great melodic and hymnal, yet dustdry and bonecracking old school Punkrock style of musical things, and made round by great guitar work, fantastic charismatic vocals and beefy back up shouts, as well as 'some clap-ya-hands-ta-this' stadium rock atmosphere. Cool!!! Full of energy and all that stuff that gives ya really a kick while you listen to it. Also cool is this Sci-Fi B-Movie atmosphere to it, even I really miss the keyboard somehow, what's really a pity. Then on side B(eta) they give us "ROCKET ROLL", I guess it's something like their (in)official (?) band hymn or something like this so. Strong Rockabilly and classical Rock & Roll influences, hm, it's pretty much this dance-your-ass-off Rock & Roll-a-Billy stuff with some strong Old School taste to it, hm, and somehow it reminds me very strong of all this "EIS AM STIEL" (= "ESKIMO LIMON", in english) movies (the music, the atmosphere, the attitude, etc. pp.). And again I miss the keyboard!!! Damn it!!! (I know, ya can make me go mad and bad pretty quick if ya not do what I expect rom ya and prefer ya to do, haha;-)!!!) It's a solid track but not comparable respectively 'matchable' to their great anthem "I AM ROBOT" and to other songs of them (I know from their already one or two times mentioned concert in Braunschweig), but anyhow a pretty cool track, don't understand me wrong. Okay, one great song and one solid song, hm, I guess that's making this 7'' here at least a really good record and one that you should try to get a hold on and grab it. Really a great band, hm, and I have no clue from where in Germany you can get releases of THE PHENOMENAUTS but at least write to the band and ask them if ya find nowhere over here in good old Germoney a possibility to order a record of them. Enough said, fucking good stuff!!! Ah, the artwork looks great (but it sucks that the lyrics aren't printed, hm, but okay, the 'Star-Destroyer' of the old "STAR WARS" trilogy fills this void anyhow, even it seems to be wrecked, haha;-)...), and the old school style and pretty dirty and earthy production sound fits perfect to the music and sounds great. Ah, and finally again one hell of a damn good band from sunny California, USA. Okay, anyhow, if ya ak me, don't think twice, better just get it asap, point and fact!!! (And check them also out live!!!) (8 of 10 points)
After I've already posted the (official) video clip of "I AM ROBOT" before and I can't find a clip of respctively to "ROCKET ROLL" but wanting to give ya another video clip of them anyhow you now get their clip to their great and very much Punkrock-sounding song "MISSION" (should be the official video clip), and also the brilliant Keyboard sounds and playing are there, phenomenal!!!

Rocket Rock!!! Science & Honor!!! Punkrock-meets-Rock & Roll-meets-Rockabilly-meets Punk & Roll-meets-Horrorpunk from outta space and that live in Braunschweig in the 'Gearbox'... you wouldn't believe it... you better believe it!!!

THE PHENOMENAUTS - "SCIENCE & HONOR - EUROPEAN TOUR 2011 TRAILER"

Concert with and of THE PHENOMENAUTS in the lion city called Braunschweig, at the 29. of January of the year of 2011, and it all took place in the underground bar'n'club of the name of "Gearbox", and now finally here comes the gig report of or to this concert, and now, yehp, let's go!!!

It was a very nice and fine and good saturday. I've spent the day with my beloved girlfriend out in the city going on a little shopping spree (or how-ever you use to call it in english, haha;-)...) and having a great and a fun time together. After some little cooking and so she was up and ready to go and see and visit a german comedian of the artist-nick-name of 'Paul Panzer' that was doing his show this night- also- in the german city Braunschweig (or Brunswick, the old and original one, not the new one;-)...) and I was planning on the spur of the moment what I would be doing this evening. Fuck, I know that this is something that maybe should be fixed by me before anyhow, but damn it, with so much work to do over the week I was really busy enough and so it all needs to be done off-the-cuff. Called my mates up, realizing that some where nowhere to be reached by me, some just sitting in the local nuclear sub, yehp, and of the supreme crew 'Peino' was bonking ;-) up there in the northest city of Germany, 'Zottel' was still working (just let the tax-hungry 'big brother' not know about it, haha;-)...), and so just 'Tobilicious' and 'Ossi' and I had been ready to fire it up together as a three piece tag team. Not really knowing what we should do, just knowing that all of us three felt no motivation to just sit at the bar in some local pub, 'Ossi' came up with the information and the idea to drive to Braunschweig to go and see the U.S. band of the name of THE PHENOMENAUTS (to me totally unknown before this evening... shame on me) play live this night in the bar/club "Gearbox". I was never before to this club'n'bar but it's a in nearly whole Germany very, very well reputated Rock & Roll, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, etc. pp. club (and bar), btw, not really my favorite styles of music, you know about it, and that's also the reason why I wasn't there before (ignorance and prejudices galore;-)...), but damn it, I didn't care or thought about it, and so the three piece crew of 'Ossi', 'Tobilicious' and me, myself and I were on the hunt for action this very night.
Reaching Braunschweig pretty soon, swilling some cans of my favorite energy drink, the mighty "ROCKSTAR" (even the PC faggots now-a-days even try to forbid me drinking this drink because of the political views of the owners of "ROCKSTAR", haha, damn it, must be hard to be a so damn big piece of fascist crap that everyone that's not completly on your side of the fence gets defamed and 'attacked'- via the www- and being named as the personified evil only because of his or her different views on politics, economics, and society, and that you still feel the need and dare to call yourself anyhow 'left' and especially 'anti-fascist', right, haha;-)... *lol*), and after a little 'paroling-and-bouncing' walk through the streets to the next bank and back again we stormed into the "Gearbox", and whooaaaa, what a little location. Basically a bar-desk and a little 'annex', yoahr, and that's it. That's what I call dwarfishly, haha;-). (Especially when it's full like it was at this evening/night.) But yes, it's a great location with great flair and spirit, truly a true Rock & Roll bar and club!!!
Pretty soon after we hit the dance floor ;-) we decided to leave this whole 'sober living' thing behind us for this evening (and/or night) and so it all kicked off really and pretty soon the amusement level was damn high, while the standard of our talking and its content pretty soon went deep down in and under and beneath the ground. The same as usual, haha;-). Pretty late, hm, I think somewhat like one-and-a-half-hour before midnight or so THE PHENOMENAUTS used to hit the stage. All dressed in some weird and cool "Star Trekk" like 'Space Uniforms' with helmets and much more accesoires like that, and after a great 1970's Horror/Sci-Fi B-Movie piano intro the concert really kicked off heated and strong. Okay, the first song was some total strange and sucking (and not the good kind of sucking, I can tell ya) affair, don't know what they've wanted to do or say anyhow with it, but okay, after this it became a damn great concert. Like I've already said, THE PHENOMENAUTS had been totally unknown to me and after 'Ossi' came up with this concert I expected some typical bullshit Psychobilly garbage or something like this (I mean all this typical awful crap he usually uses to listen to these days, haha;-)...) and to go to this concert was just more a 'it's-better-than-just-hang-around-at-the-bar-desk-of-a-local-pub-at-a-saturday-evening/night-and-so-okay-let-us-just-because-of-this-fact-go-there-and-have-some-fun-as-far-as-possible' - thing, but damn it, it should become an awesome night and a great gig. THE PHENOMENAUTS played (and play) some great and weird and totally stand-alone mixture out of THE RAMONES style good rockin' and even better rollin' PunkROCK, some Horrorpunk like THE MISFITS, some few RANCID Streetpunk impressions, a lot of Country and some of Blues, some Rockabilly and only very few Psychobilly reminiscencs in it, big portions of 1970's Horror and Sci-Fi movies and 1970's B-Movies (in general), ah, and even some more stuff. Great!!! Full of power and force, catchy and melodic and anthemic as fuck, energetic and fresh and dynamic, just fantastic!!! Two guitars and two singers, one guy at the keyboard/piano, a stand-up bass and a guy that's beating the drums, and mighty crew back up shouts, non stop action and power and movement up on stage and a crazy live performance. Fantastic!!! I can't tell ya how long they've played but it was long but still too short, also they had been called out two or three times to play some songs more. Dancing and laughing and party and (partially heavy) drinking all the time all over the place, hell yeahr, a great concert evening that I would never have expected, and also the band consists of great and sympathic totally non-plastic guys. Talked some rounds with them and bought a patch and record (the review will come soon) of them and then entered the bar-desk again and wished uncountable songs (and most used to be played... I think that speaks for my taste in music, haha;-)...), 'Tobilicious' heavily attracted the attention of a somewhat like 70 years old or so guy that used to donate him a CD of THE PHENOMENAUTS (without getting anything back, I can assure you, or at least I do think- or hope...- so, haha;-)...), fluctuaed to the next local "Burger King" after we three used to be the last guys in the bar, terrorized the "Burger King" employees and the other customers, going rampage in the streets on our way back to the car (... oh my god...) and then we entered the car again, after a damn great evening/night, and we drove back home... and why the fuck I was not until 4.30 a.m. at home (after Braunschweig is just 30 minutes away from our hometown, and I think we started in Braunschweig some-time around 3 a.m. or so) I can't tell ya, haha;-)!!! It was a great concert evening with some of my best mates, and in a great location and with a phenomenal band and also some cool other guys in the audience and with the very sympathic "Gearbox" crew, yeahr, and "Sorry!" for the certainly very 'anti-social' behavior of me and 'Tobilicious' to (or infront of) the nice guys that run the "Gearbox", damn it, haha;-), but be sure, we will always be coming back again, haha;-), and this is not threat, it's a promise, haha;-)!!! Great night!!! Cheers & Oi!

And now you do get two videos of them, real and pretty cool video clips, so enjoy this little collection of moved and moving ;-) pictures and check THE PHENOMENAUTS out!!!
