MANILLA ROAD - "TO KILL A KING" (2017)

MANILLA ROAD - "TO KILL A KING"
(Running time: 61:39 minutes; 10 songs)
("Zyx Music"; 2017; CD):
Hey guys, next one ('already') coming in and is aiming at you, yes, and so here you now get my record-review on the (brand)new full-length-album of/by the (al)mighty and truly legendary MANILLA ROAD, sort of none less than the founding fathers of Epic Metal or (how I love to call it in their particular case) Conan Metal because the whole atmosphere and delivery and the whole aesthetic(s) and surely and truly magical intensity of this music matches perfectly to/with the world of Cimmerien (or in english I guess Cimmerian) which is 'Conan's world', and their newest offering is titled "TO KILL A KING" and was released (at least over here in Germany) via "ZYX MUSIC" around the 20th of September of 2017 (so more or less sort of still pretty recently... I guess... or so...) and it is their 18th studio-full-length-album in their since 1977 lasting and now 40 years spanning career (and with being now in 2018 in their 41st year). "TO KILL A KING" is the direct successor to/of the incredible great "THE BLESSED CURSE" from 2015 (and even so far I haven't done a record-review on it I'm anyhow pretty sure that I will do it one day in the future up here as well) and so "TO KILL A KING" had a tough contest to succeed in, so to say, and I was damn curious about it and what it would have to offer. Btw, and in general I think it's just fantastic that years back more as obscure seen bands like for example MANILLA ROAD and/or CIRITH UNGOL that were always sort of being pushed aside finally seem to get more proper attention over the last years than ever before, so it seems, and not only more proper attention but especially more than justified and long, long overdue attention, yes, and this is something that to me sort of shows me that this world we live in maybe isn't just such a huge shithole at all. Okay, and now back to the topic and that is MANILLA ROAD's "TO KILL A KING", yes, and so now here we go again: Compared to/with "THE BLESSED CURSE" the first thing you notice is probably that we get less acoustic passages here on "TO KILL A KING" and also a sort of a more heavier and more 'doomy' direction that the album takes, while at the same time "TO KILL A KING" serves us less raging outbursts than "THE BLESSED CURSE" and so "TO KILL A KING" is, in my book, even far more intense than its direct predecessor (or maybe better intense in a pretty different way) because it sort of flows perfectly and melts all together in a brilliant way... and I just hope you understand my writing and what I want to say with it... because I sort of can't say it more detailed or precise(d)... anyhow, anyway, further on we go: The whole album breathes an and is interwoven by one hell of a larger than life absolutely mystical, magical, and surely majestic atmosphere that is also absoultely grapping and overwhelming intense and totally sucks you into a fantastic and amazing world of its very, very own, yeah', it sucks you deeply into it and won't spit you out again before the album hasn't ran through and even then it maintains its intense and massive hold on you and it serves you goose bumps in largest amounts sort of for free, hell yeahr. So, yes, "TO KILL A KING" is through and through for sure a definite MANILLA ROAD album but with a different note'n'tone and a very own identity compared with its (also brilliant and fantastic, and also very unique and 'special') predecessor "THE BLESSED CURSE". And sort of like all MANILLA ROAD albums it's a very unique and charismatic and so sort of a 'special' one and this even in the discography of the band itself (and this also sort of like all Albums, too), oh yes, delivered by one of the only very few bands outta there that probably never wrote a really bad song in their career. And it all has a undeniable epic spirit with rampantly far, wide, and broad exciting and grapping arrangements and a such compositorial work. Right from the get-go with the opening riff of the outstanding opener and title track "TO KILL A KING" it's like a movie starts instantly in your head and you are promptly 'beamed' into the action in that fantastic mystical world. Absolutely and sheer amazing!!! All is carried onwards on the wings of the brilliant, most unique and highest skilled and also highly diverse and still heavy guitar work of the Mark "The Shark" Shelton himself with its absolutely stunning and unique tone and that shines with large riffs and rhythm structures as well as and especially with a very 'special' melody and harmony work and that delivers nearly perfect leads and bright shining solos. Then we have very soulful and heartfelt, and also very charismatic lead vocals that are mostly pure gold and deliver all the time to point in a great way, even here and there I would sometimes wish for some more variations in the composition of the vocal lines but that is anyhow only of a minor concern at the end of the day. Backed up and massively beefed up in the right way and manner is then all by the forceful and yet very sensitive and varying rhythm section. And that the songwriting is simpley intense, diverse, and highest skilled as well as the skills of the musicians I only mention here for reasons of comletness. Yes, what is there more to say, hm, MANILLA ROAD's "TO KILL A KING" is absolutely unique and phenomenal Epic Metal of the most original and true style and with a very huge and unique identity and highest skilled, yes, and even it's maybe not completly pure platinum it is anyhow purest gold and great and even 'greater than great', yes, a pure larger than life masterpiece and even sort of more, definitely, and a slightly bit I like it even a little bit more than the damn great "THE BLESSED CURSE" and so here you now get my clearest recommendation and this without a second thought anyway. Any listening tipps I will spare me, simply because you have to experience "TO KILL A KING" in its whole glory. Fantastic lyrics, a totally gorgeous artwork, and a very strong very warm and 'earthy' production sound finally round it all up in a sort of a 'perfect way'. Okay, so here now that's it for now, yes, and so I'll now wish you a good night and, yes, just get this damn masterpiece.

AXEMASTER - "CRAWLING CHAOS" (2017)

AXEMASTER - "CRAWLING CHAOS"
(Running time: 43:49 minutes; 10 songs)
("Pure Steel Records"; 2017; CD):
Hey folks, I hope all is going fine'n'well this week so far, yes, and here you now get my newest 'load' aiming at you, finally... so to say..., and this new(est) 'load' is my newest record-review up here for you and this time it will be all about the (brand)new  AXEMASTER full-length-album "CRAWLING CHAOS" that was released still (more or less) pretty recently at the end of 2017 via "PURE STEEL RECORDS" and it is the newest release of/by this already 'longer-running' US Metal veterans (they are around, if my informations are correct, now already since 1982) hailing from out of Ohio/U.S.A. but it is anyhow my very first 'session' with them. Why the hell ever... This album sort of left me wondering, and it left me wondering a lot... hm... nah, that's wrong said, totally wrong, because it is not the album that left or leaves me wondering (a lot) but more the weird fact that I so far haven't read any sort of positive review(s) on it and that's something that I definitely can't understand, period. I mean, okay, maybe so far I just have constantly sort of checked out the wrong sources or so but anyhow this from my point of view surely weird fact really left and still leaves me wondering and this quite a lot. Judging by the bandname and the label and maybe also by looking at the albumtitle (and maybe also taking their discography so far in account but that is something I can't say anything profund about and so I'll spare me any words more about it) you maybe sort of expect a true Heavy Metal and/or through and through Power Metal album and considering the heritage of AXEMASTER surely with a strong US Metal touch to it all; while the (absoulte fantastic) coverartwork maybe could give you the impression that a Thrash Metal album is coming at you... and while this is definitely US Metal of the strong US american Heavy Metal (or Power Metal) kind and so to say American Heavy Metal, yes, but this all comes with a strong focus on powerful grooves, heavy hitting mid tempo, and really a far bigger concentration on crushing riffs and harsh rhythm structures and arrangements than on 'open' melody-lines and symphonic singing leads. Terms or words like 'modern' and especially the comparisons with PANTERA I, personally, find absoultely not-matching and so you won't read that bullcrap here and now written down by me, just that you know that. AXEMASTER deliver here on and with and via or what the hell else ever "CRAWLING CHAOS" a really heavy bastard of an (U.S.) American Heavy Metal album with a major focus on deep and heavy grooves and all the time slightly to more openly 'doomy' rhythm structures and a all in all very tight and dense sinister atmosphere and all delivered with a really big load of intensity. This is pretty self-contained and so any comparision(s) with other bands are pretty hard, hm, but maybe AXEMASTER's "CRAWLING CHAOS" is what you get when you mix SAVATAGE (their Heavy Metal/Power Metal 'phase') with some VICIOUS RUMORS (surely probably more their 1990's phase) with a big load of BLACK SABBATH and sort of 'today's' CANDLEMASS, yes, maybe... but please just use this as a very loose description and so only as a very loose starting point for your first 'session' with AXEMASTER's "CRAWLING CHAOS" so that you are sort of prepared for what will hit you when you put it on for the first time. And also don't expect an 'easy ride', hell no, because "CRAWLING CHAOS" is a very intense album that's packed up full with fresh'n'rich surprises and that's also beneath the heavy hitting rhythms and the 'doomy' grooves  waiting with a lot of nicely varying diversity and a lot of exciting, grapping, and surely tension-building twists'n'turns in the compositions, the arrangements, and the song structures so that you should really do yourself the big favor and the album the very-well-deserved justice to give it some good intense listening rounds because it really holds a lot to discover in store for you if you just give it the space'n'time and allow it to grow on you. The exciting, and strong, and pretty unconventional songwriting, all done by very well-skilled musicians anyhow, is the strongest trademark of AXEMASTER's "CRAWLING CHAOS", definitely, but also its ingredients really convince, oh yes, and first and foremost I have to mention the heavy crushing guitars and that yet still come up all the time with a very big to huge amount of melodies, (twin) leads, and great solos at the right moments and in the right portions. Yes, really strong. And then also the first class lead vocals really deliver the goods, yes, and I like especially that the arrangements of the verses (as well as their delivery) is more than often as strong as the arrangements of the refrains (also, as well as their delivery) and they have also a pretty strong own character and identity to it; and btw AXEMASTER also create quite a big bunch of really hymnal tracks. The stunning and damn harsh rhythm section then finally delivers to point and gives the songs a surely very strong punch. If you want to know my personal favorites then that would probably be "10.000 POUND HAMMER", "FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD", "ALDAR ROF", "DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR", "BRAVADO", and "KNIGHT OF PAIN", yes, so maybe check this heavy hitters out first. Surely not every track is a killer, for example especially "AXES OF EVIL" simply refuses to grab me and speak to/with me, but anyhow, this is a surely very strong (to great) album that definitely deserves your attention and it gives you really much for this in return, really much, and I simply can't understand all the negative reviews that I've read mostly on it so far... maybe that's what happens when you only listen to an album one or two times while it is playing in the background while you prep your meals in the kitchen (or what the hell else ever) and then instantly write your review on it while never really did pay proper attention to it and never do justice to it... but at the end, yes, who am I to judge... I just hope I did a somehow more 'valuable' and more 'justice-to-it-doing' record-review on it anyhow with my writing here on/about it and that you got sort of curious about/for it. Very interesting and thought-provoking lyrics, a great artwork with this pheneomenal and fantastic H.P. Lovecraft inspired cover (Chtulu is rising!!!), and a very organic and dirty and yet pretty heavy and good production sound (only the drum sound isn't really that strong; but also not a total catastrophe, so to say) finally round it all up. At the end of the day I simnply can only calmly and clearly recommend AXEMASTER's "CRAWLING CHAOS" to you and so make sure to check it out or (even better) buy it instantly. And now for today, yes, I say good night to you and more again sooner or later up here, yes, and so just stay tuned for more to come.

INTEGRITY - "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" (2017)

INTEGRITY - "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME"
(Running time: 57:37 minutes; 14 songs)
("Relapse Records"; 2017; CD):
I think I've already mentioned one or two times before that 2017 was a very, very strong year music-wise, at least so in my book, and that it also saw the return of the almighty INTEGRITY is only one more further proof for/of my statement. 'Today' for the first time (ever) via the legendary "RELAPSE RECORDS" the outstanding INTEGRITY released their newest gem "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" at the 14th of July of 2017 and it is (so I think) the successor album to/of "SUICIDE BLACK SNAKE" from 2013 (don't ask, I still don't know it so far... shame on me) but in my case it is finally my first 'meeting' with them again since their (al)mighty "THE BLACKEST CURSE" killer (from 2010) that I seven years... or so... ago also reviewed up here. Since then a lot of various records in different formats had been released by INTEGRITY but due to 'troublesome real life stuff'n'issues' most of them went under my radar (so far) and I know it (by) myself so you don't have to say it... shame on me... But anyhow, because finally in 2017 I managed to get my hands on INTEGRITY's newest offering "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" already last summer pretty soon when it was released back then and this totally mindblowing fantastic masterpiece absolutely 'consumed' me, it conquered me and it 'kept me conquered' up to this present day since then. To or for me INTEGRITY were always and still are one of the very best (if not sort of the best) and also one of the most unique and inspiring as well as influential Hardcore bands ever outta there and of an importance of a far wider (out)reaching kind than solely being just a Hardcore 'thing'. They were and still are sort of an absolutely lifechanging importance to/for me in a lot if not (nearly) all ways and meanings. My first experience with INTEGRITY was way, far way back in 1995 with their absolute groundbreakers and total lifechangers "SYSTEMS OVERLOAD" and "HUMANITY IS THE DEVIL", two albums that will forever rank up high on my larger than life albums list, and in 1997 with "SEASONS IN THE SIZE OF DAYS" they absolutely conquered their crown and throne and both they maintain unrivaled up to this day and age and present day. And in 2017 they are finally back again and serve us this outstanding piece of art that "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" totally is. I am absolutely blown away again and again by this masterpiece every time I put it on, again and again, and all the time. This is once in Cleveland born'n'based'n'raised metallic Hardcore fueled by blasphemic/satanic and nihilstic rage and energy without end and sheer 'atomizingly' harsh exploding dynamics and sheer 'ultra-violent' force that absolutely takes no prisoners, no, not a single bit, not a single one, and that simply conquers everything and anything by storm and that especially outshines all and everything with its tight, dense, very sinister and diabolic and nihilstic atmosphere and its massively mindblowing and worldshattering and definitely larger than life overwhelming intensity that marks it all in a very, very immense and stunning way. All is done and delivered by highest skilled musicians via phenomenal outstanding songwriting that is not only larger than life 'overwhelmigly' intense and mercylessly heavy and tough as nails harsh but also incredible diverse and highly varying and all is also massively 'rich' in every meaning(s) and so on "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" the almighty INTEGRITY work (and this in an impressive smooth flowing way without any sort of breaks or holes or any blank space/-s in the song-architecture/-s) not only massive(ly) Metal elements and influences and impressions into their absolutely unique metallic Hardcore musick, first and foremost especially Thrash Metal but also Black Metal and Death Metal marks are clearly to be found and also sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller Doom (Metal) inspirations crush right out of the speakers and overwhelm you instantly and totally, but also traditional Heavy Metal and classic Hard Rock elements (especially in the guitar leads and the harmony and melody lines in general this influences very or pretty often shine bright but also in the rhythm structures this impressions can be found) and even Blues and Country just wait to be discovered here on INTEGRITY's "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME", oh bloody hell yeahr, and also the more or less for INTEGRITY typical 'classical/traditional' (slightly) Industrial marks rage one more time again beneath the surface of it all, yes, and also every resistance down hammering Hardcore Punk roots that are still very alive and well you will find en masse on and in it all here. The foundation clearly is very unique and sinister, evil, harsh, heavy, intense, crushing, and fast raging, very fresh and totally alive/lively done metallic Hardcore (some may call it Metalcore, okay, but personally I wouldn't do so, but okay...) but or and from this foundation on so incredible more is happening and going on on here, hell yes, INTEGRITY will leave your mind absouletyl blown (out) and your eyes and mouth wide open while your ears ring in constant excitement and hellish pleasure. All is without regrets and without mercy pushed forward by the intense and absolutely unique and charismatic hellish screamed and throaty'n'harsh shouted 'all-out-war-blasted' lead vocals of/by the legendary Dwid Hellion himself, the devastating crushing guitars, and the smashing and thunderous/thundering rhythm section, yes, and all done on one hell of an impressive level of skills and identity. To name any bands to compare INTEGRITY with makes no real sense after all because INTEGRITY pretty much were the first and still are the best and the greatest of'n'in their style but for example a great band like the mighty RINGWORM (and so many others more) would not exist or would not be around the way they are around without INTEGRITY, point and fact. This is HOLY TERROR HARDCORE of and at its very, very, very best!!! The whole album is incredible rich and more than 'just' great and in all honesty it's (nearly) perfect, yes, from start to finish, yes, and so I spare me the mentioning of any sort of personal favorite tracks because you definitely need to experience INTEGRITY's "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" in all its larger than life glory. Fantastic lyrics, an outstanding gorgeous artwork, and a blasting'n'bombing production sound finally round it all up, yes, it's (at least nearly/almost) perfect, period. INTEGRITY's "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTNARE SHALL CONSUME" is an absolutely phenomenal and amazing album and one of the very, very best (and most unique) ones of 2017 and surely in years as well as for years to come, oh yes, and if I would have done a more sort of my 'traditional' year-retrospections on 2017 then you would find INTEGRITY's "HOWLING, FOR THE NIGHTMARE SHALL CONSUME" definitely in my personal top five (if not even in my personal top three) list. Okay, so I think now you should know all what you need to know so far and my last words here and now are that anyone and everybody only slightly into extreme (Hardcore) musick really have to know and own this absolutely mindblowing larger than life masterpiece. HARDCORE!!! FIST!!!

LION'S LAW and STARS & STRIPES - "HERITAGE" (2017)

LION'S LAW and STARS & STRIPES - "HERITAGE"
(4 Songs; two songs per side and per band. Black-and-bonewhite vinyl.)
("Contra Records" & "Longshot Music"; 2017; 7''):
Hey guys, yes, good morning. It's been a while since I've done the last stuff up here, yes, real life can be very 'time consuming' from time to time I guess... but anyhow, yes, so it's really about time that something new comes up here and after I don't know how soon 'things'n'times' will be not so 'stressy' anymore and I have some free spare time to spend right now after breakfast and before work I will right now give you my newest record-review and that is now coming for and at you and will be all about the new split 7'' vinyl release shared by the young french roughnecks LION'S LAW (that are currently hyped a lot) and the almighty STARS & STRIPES (their fantastic last full-length-album "PLANET OF THE STATES" from some years ago I will probably also do a record-review on in the future, we will see); and btw your eyes aren't playing tricks on you and so now here I finally really have a new record-review on a new vinyl release in store for you after I finally bought me, myself, and I a new LP-player last month after my beloved glory old one that served me well for about sort of nearly 25 years decided some time last year that it is really about time to say goodbye and go into retirement... Okay, side A is owned by LION'S LAW and shame on me but this is my first ever 'happening' so far with them and I get and understand and definitely cheer up to the sort of 'hype' that they currently seem to get 'everywhere'. Melodic, catchy and hymnal and yet very tough and heavy played Oi! with some fresh kicking American Oi! impressions as well as some proud stomping British Oi! roots in it and all delivered via big leading guitars and highly energetic and dynamic rolling and rousing songwriting we get from them. Marked by the smashing guitars that deliver a very strong 'rough'n'tough' rhythm punch with a lot of power and force behind it and especially with great singing melodic leads and strong solo work, and also by the melodic and yet still pretty hard sung lead vocals that deliver very strong verses and highly anthemic refrains and that are nicely backed up by loud back up chants. Beefed up by the harsh buzzing bass work and the mighty stomping drumming. Fresh and very hymnal songwriting delivered by this very wellskilled guys only add up to this. Their own song "HERITAGE" totally kills and with their STARS & STRIPES cover tune "THE POWER AND THE GLORY" they deliver a great (sort of...) 'tribute' to the legends and do definitely justice to the larger than life original even they don't 'match up with it' but they deliver anyhow. And, to be damn honest, they do really come damn close to the more than only legendary original. I can only say that this is damn great stuff and I really need to get my hands on more LION'S LAW stuff in the (near) future. Then on side B the absolutely larger than life and almighty STARS & STRIPES serve us their brandnew tune "KNOCK 'EM OUT" and this is a total killer. But.. for all what I finally got/get this is 'originally' also a LION'S LAW track. Damn it... Shame on me! But STARS & STRIPES turn this totally and absolutely into their very own 'thing'. And so they deliver: Harsh and heavy, pissed off and angry, militant and sinister forward slashing (American) Oi! with full force onwards into battle riding and mercylessly onwards pushing and marching with raised fists held up high and yet still offering a very strong and present melodic work, a great hymnal character and a great dynamic and varying and intense songwriting that this more than  well-skilled gentlement from Boston unleash at us and this all with their very strong own and unique identity and character and also pretty much in the tradition of their last masterpiece so far "PLANET OF THE STATES". Heavy hitting tough as nails guitars that shine with huge powerful rhythm arrangements and even more with great singing leads and also a cool solo work mark the songs massively and this for all the right reasons. Harsh and yet still melodic sung, very charismatic lead vocals do the same, delivering mighty verses and hymnal sing a long refrains as well in a totally top notch way and are also in the right moments nicely backed up by loud'n'proud crew back up chants. A heavy roaring bass and heavy hitting drumming then beef and bulk it all up in a massive way. Absoultely purest platinum!!! Then they do also a cover tune and this of the self-titled LION'S LAW battleanthem "LION'S LAW". The original I don't know so far (same is to say about the original of "KOCK 'EM OUT"...) but STARS & STRIPES anyhow deliver here one roaring Oi! battle hymn of the highest and finest grade. Both bands deliver also strong lyrics, the production sound of both sides is first class, and the artwork just totally rocks, ah, and the vinyl also comes with a download code, too. LION'S LAW deliver brightest shining pure gold and STARS & STRIPES deliver purest precious platinum which means that LION'S LAW get 9 out of 10 (at least... maybe even more...) and STARS & STRIPES get 10 out of 10 and  so definitely anyone only slightly into Oi! here's my highest recommendation for you, yes, so definitely get this little big masterpiece and then play it loud. Very loud!!! And now I'll soon be off to work and so I wish you all a great day and more sooner or later up here again and so stay tuned for more. Cheers & Oi! Oi! Oi!

LEGION 76 - "LEGION 76" (2017)

LEGION 76 - "LEGION 76"
(Running time: 43:05 minutes; 14 songs)
("Contra Records"; 2017; CD):
Good morning my dear readers, okay, it's nearly eleven o'clock (a.m.) while I am starting this post (okay, with an-hour-break due to a telephone-call, okay...) and so maybe already not really that much anyhow 'morning' anyway but anyhow the right time to start on working a new post which means ('yet-still of course...') on a new record-review post for you all outta there and so now here we are and what's now about to hit you is my record-review on the self-titled compilation- and (if I am now correct sort of) full-length-debut-album of/by LEGION 76 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/U.S.A. delivering us one of the most amazing and very best albums of 2017 and that serve us one hell of an outstanding American Oi! on one hell of a level of quality, oh hell yeahr, and they took me by storm with it and totally conquered me in a more than just supreme way. LEGION 76 were/are also a band that (shame on me, I know) were more or less totally unknown to me before I got my hands on this album. I knew them a bit through social media stuff and sort of due to YouTube and also their Bandcamp site and what I knew convinced me strongly but for all what I got (please, correct me if I am wrong with/on that...) so far they only released vinyl 10"'s, singles and split releases and due to the fact that I only pretty recently before christmas 2017 managed to not forget about it and so finally made a new LP-player as a gift to me, myself, and I from me, myself, and I a band like the LEGION 76 was so far sort of mostly 'under-my-radar-screen' and so I was really glad and really 'curiously' excited when I saw that this self-titled compilation-album on CD was released (for all what I know, correct me if I am wrong with/on that...) at the end (?) of 2017 via the strong-going german "CONTRA RECORDS" label and it was already pretty clear for/to me that I definitely would need to call this my very own, yes, and so I did with buying it promptly. And since then it is 'ongoingly' on heavy rotation. This is highest grade American Oi! the brickwall style. Between powerful kicking up tempo and massively energetic and nicely dynamic stomping mid pace LEGION 76 move and they deliver one sheer full force fist in the air heavy and crushing 'masterly' executed Oi! Oi! Oi! that's highly intense (attitude-, atmosphere-, and deliverywise) and absolutely massive and also done very, very well-skilled and maybe loosely to be located standing proud and strong on a very stand-alone and self-contained position somehwere between BOOT PARTY and PATTON'S LEGION as well as SOLDIER 76 on the one side and STARS & STRIPES and BONECRUSHER on the other side (and fans of the great german GUTS & GLORY, just in case you may know/knew and still remember them, will surely love the LEGION 76 as well, too) and this they do with having a very strong own identity and a pretty unique approach to it all already as well. This shines through in the formidable songwriting that delivers highly energetic and dynamic powerful crushing and smashing song arrangements and rhythm archtitectures all the way that really excite and (a)rouse you and grab you instantly and carry you with them all the way, all the time, again and again, yes, and the very honest and so also very sympathic attitude and mentality also only adds up to the many benefits of/for  LEGION 76, oh yes, and that this fine gentlemen also for damn sure know how to play I only mention here for reasons of completness. What also really totally just rules supremely is the fact that LEGION 76 really manage to deliver truly damn strong and very fresh arranged verses really absoultely all the time as well as absoultely stunning and completly alive/lively massive fist in the air and sing a long refrains that turn each and every song simply into nothing else but totally larger than life anthems and/or hymns all the damn ride and this all absoultely 'amazingly' on a larger than life level of skill and quality and identity. Powered forward by hard stomping and yet very melodic sharp cutting and heavy hitting guitars that deliver one hell of a thundering rhythm work and also first class leads and headspinning solos, too. All pushed on and on by rough'n'tough as nails dry and heavy, throaty and yet still sort of really melodic and especially full and powerful shouted and sung lead vocals that are backed up by very forceful loud, wide, fat, and proud gang back up chants. The 'grizzly' bass work and the harsh stomping drumming then round it all finally up. And this all, like already said, on a damn high skilled level of delivery, point and fact. I know that for/on 2017 I haven't done one of my usual retrospections up here but you can be sure that if I would have done so then LEGION 76's "LEGION 76" would be definitely to be found in my personal top five ranks/list, yes, and this without a single doubt. Strong and honest Working Class and Oi! lyrics, a really gorgeous and beautiful artwork, and dirty, earthy, and yet heavy hitting production sound then round it all finally up, yes, and this in all the right way.The whole album is just through and through pure platinum and so I will spare me any 'listening-tipps' right here, right now. Instead of this I now close this record-review with saying that anyone who states he/she would be only anyhow slightly into Oi! and Streetpunk music needs to have this larger than life American Oi! masterpiece in his/her Collection (promptly) and so go out and get it and this best instantly right now, period. Cheers & Oi! Oi! Oi!

BROKEN HEROES - "MAKE Oi! GREAT AGAIN" (2017)

BROKEN HEROES - "MAKE Oi! GREAT AGAIN"
(Running time: 39:00 minutes; 13 songs)
("Step 1 Music"; 2017; CD):
Hey guys, back @ work again, so here now comes my newest record-review post for you and this time it's finally time (or surely even about time) to bring some proper Oi! back to the "MANSLAUGHTER-THUG-LIFE" up here and this in a great way, definitely, and this time it will be all about the kick-ass album that marked in 2017 the return of the (al)mighty American Oi! legends BROKEN HEROES from New Jersey with their masterpiece "MAKE Oi! GREAT AGAIN" (btw, great albumtitle) released in (you've guessed it already...) 2017 via "STEP 1 MUSIC" (good that they are still active'n'around) and that last month (december 2017, when it also for all what I know was released) finally landed also in my collection and from then'n'there on it conquered me, yes, and it massively conquered me (and continues to do so). This is bonesmashing and skullcracking harsh and yet nicely diverse and melodic roughnecked (American) Oi! music massively pushed and driven forwards'n'onwards by full-force sawing and very violent raging guitars that deliver a truly shredding and stomping, a sheer heavy crushing rhythm work as well as well-dosed melodic arrangements and leads and also a big bunch of cool solos, yes, all done very well-skilled, nicely diverse and varying, but above all powerful and smashing intense. Yes, that's how I love it, and for all the right reasons the guitars do mark the songs strongly. Hard and angry, snotty and pissed off, throaty and charismatic lead vocals that are enriched by strong backings and really loud'n'proud crew chants cultivate and mark the music only further on, yes, and also for sure for all the right reasons, period. Powerful forwards storming verses and rousing hymnal sing-a-long refrains shine both as well nearly all the time here on BROKEN HEROES' "MAKE Oi! GREAT AGAIN" on and on again. A tough as nails rumbling bass and powerful punching and smashing drums then round it all up with adding a massive amount of beefy and bulky flesh'n'meat to the backbone(s) of the songs and music of the BROKEN HEROES here on "MAKE Oi! GREAT AGAIN". Forceful and intense and yet still nicely varying songwriting that also offers fantastic moonstompin' SKA/Skinhead Reggae tunes melts it all together and all is delivered by truly well-skilled veterans. And it's all full of energy, highly dynamic, and really rousing and powerful to the max, an exciting and grapping true kick to the head in all the right way. Honest and sympathic and delivered in a through'n'through fantastic way; and the same is to say about the great honest Working Class and Oi!/Skinhead lyrics, the absolutely gorgeous artwork, and the rough'n'tough dirty and also heavy hitting production sound, yes, making out of all this the real deal and the damn fucking complete package. My personal favorites are "BUILT TO LAST", "MURDER ON MY MIND", "SOMETHING SPECIAL", "WORKING CLASS SLOB", "THIS AIN'T FOR YOU", "WE NEVER RUN", "VIOLENCE IS THE ANSWER", the amazing done FORCED REALITY cover "15 PINTS" (with overworked lyrics), and "OVERNIGHT LOVE AFFAIR", yes, all purest platinum. Also the other, not mentioned, and also anyhow only (very) few songs are really strong stuff, for sure, the only song that really leaves me cold is "BEER RUN" and if it wouldn't be for that particular one the rating would be even better as it so also anyhow already is. This is one hell of an album, oh hell yeahr, this is amazing and absolutely finest (American) Oi! that you simply definitely need to have if you are only anyhow slightly into Oi!, Streetpunk, and Punkrock and so you should as soon as possible grab a copy of it, point and fact. I now give it another round and trust me when I say that I will now play it loud; damn loud. Damn loud! This is real American Oi! and this is still my absolutely favorite music and so it will definitely continue to be. Join or die!!! Oi! Oi! Oi!

WOLFBRIGADE - "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" (2017)

WOLFBRIGADE - "RUN WITH THE HUNTED"
(Running time: 26:51 minutes; 10 songs)
("Southern Lord Recordings"; 2017; CD):
Hey guys, yes, I am back at the regular work up here and so here already now incoming is the first 'really new' post after the (sort of...) 'mandatory' retrospection post on 2017, yes, and so now here you get my record-review on the larger-than-life 2017 masterpiece of/by the absolutely almighty WOLFBRIGADE from Sverige titled "RUN WITH THE HIUNTED", the successor album to/of their 2012 immortal masterpiece "DAMNED" (also released back then via "SOUTHERN LOTRD RECORDINGS"), and it was released at the 28th of april of 2017 and this of course (again) by/through/via "SOUTHERN LORD RECORDINGS". WOLFBRIGADE's "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" features ten new songs in roughly half-an-hour of a total running time, yes, and this would be sort of the only 'critical-point' of it because that's simply not much of a running time anyhow anyway... but WOLFBRIGADE really manage to make up for this with two huge points: (1.) "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" is so massively and 'overwhelmingly' intense that it definitely 'devastatingly' destroys absolutely everything and atomizes de facto everyone in its way in this shortly twenty-seven minutes so that it leaves no questions unanswered and no wishes unfullfilled; (2.) WOLFBRIGADE are simply that incredible damn good, nah, they are that larger-than-life great that this roughly twenty-seven minutes are packed up full with a so high skilled songwriting that beneath the overwhelming intensity and also all the high'n'tight atmosphere, beneath the brutal and yet all the time melodic and diverse massacre an incredible amount of multi-variations and diversity is waiting, enriching and cultivating it all massively and just waiting there to be discovered by all of you outta there. WOLFBRIGADE were founded back then in 1995 as WOLFPACK and they conquered me sort of instantly back then with their massively impressive debut full-length-album "A NEW DAWN FADES" and from then on and on and on and on, all the time, always. In 1999 then they changed from WOLFPACK to WOLFBRIGADE and... continued to conquer me supremely and this also all the time. Their 2012 masterpiece "DAMNED" was (in my book) back then their so far crowning chapter of their impressive career and discography... and now we have 2017 and... nah, sorry, bullshit... we (have) had 2017 and "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" was unleashed at the world, hell yeahr, and I don't know how they did it but they 'at least' hold on to "DAMNED" on the exact same larger-than-life level but I would even go so far to/and say that "RUN WUTH THE HUNTED" even is a step ahead, yes, that totally amazing and absoultely fantastic it is. This is at its core highest intensity Crustcore with some beefy'n'bulky D-Beat roots in it as well as truckloads of devastating (Sverige) Death Metal and just looking at respectively listening to some of the melodic and symphonic guitar leads and also partly because of the nihilistic atmosphere also some Black Metal marks here and there in it, too, yes, and this all done on or from a very, very unique and characteristic stand-alone position with a gigantic and forceful own identity to it all. At a very loose description I would say that if you imagine a very high skilled and 'amazingly' fresh and self-contained and stand-alone mixture out of the glorious old WOLFPACK masterpieces (like "A NEW DAWN FADES", "LYCANTHRO PUNK", and "ALLDAY HELL"), THE EXPLOTED (especially "THE MASSACRE", "BEAT THE BASTARDS", and "FUCK THE SYSTEM"), and DISCHARGE on the one side, yes, and Sverige Death Metal somewhere between AT THE GATES, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, and UNLEASHED on the other side, yes, then you do have a pretty good starting description of what to expect of/from WOLFBRIGADE in general and of/from "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" in particular, yes, and fans of the GENOCIDE SUPERSTARS, SKITSYSTEM, and DISFEAR will find here in and with WOLFBRIGADE's "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" surely their new holy grail as well. But with facing that namedropping here and now please keep in mind that WOLFBRIGADE absolutely do their very, very own thing, point and fact. All is done by surely high skilled musicians that/who deliver it all via outstanding songwriting: Forceful, intense, massive, brutal, harsh, stunning, and yet very melodical and also hymnal arranged and 'impressively' playful and soulful, yes, and also beneath the 'surface' of this high-intensity raging massacre it's all very diverse and enriched with fresh ideas and clever subtle enrichments and exciting twists'n'turns all along the ride that grant us 'ongoingly' grapping moments without end that really shine bright and are nothing else but absolutely overwhelming. The same it to say about the all the time incredible sheer exciting and grapping highest intensity and the very intense, tight, and breathtaking atmosphere of all the songs and the whole album. Carried out is this all via razorsharp cutting and sledgehammer-like banging guitars that deliver powerful raging riffing and crushing rhythm work as well as (and especially) stunningly intense and breathtaking atmospheric melody lines and leads'n'solos, yes, and that are marking the songs strongly and heavily and this also for sure for all the right reasons; the pretty much same is to say about the great and very charismatic vokillz that are brutal done 'throaty' shouts that still deliver melodies and anthemic/hymnal lines (verses and Refrains a-like) and that totally (over)shine bright, too. The fast raging and harsh thundering rhythm section then finally tears down every resistance and smashes through everything and everyone, yes, and that's a total wrecking ball going highest skilled to work. The pace of the songs is mostly up-tempo to fast pace but take the time and listen intense and you will find so much exciting and impressive surprises, yes, that will absoultely leave you breathless in all positive ways. My personal favorites? Forget it. The whole damn album is my personal total favorite, period. Strong and thought-provoking lyrics, a great artwork, and a powerful blasting production sound round it all finally up, yes, turning this absolutely into the real deal and the complete package. I know I did this time no real 'ranked list' of 'my top albums of/for 2017' but if I would have done one then WOLFBRIGADE's "RUN WITH THE HUNTED" would be clearly in my top three of/for 2017, yes, and this without a single doubt. I love this band and album. Okay, I think I've said so much all what I had to say so far about WOLFBRIGADE's "RUN WITH THE HUNTED", yes, and everyone into Crustcore, D-Beat, really hard Punk and Hardcore (Punk) musick, and (Sverige) Death Metal (that's slightly blackened) simply definitely and desperately needs to have this absolutely mindblowing and breathtaking surely larger-than-life masterpiece and this (in case you really should not have or even know it) best 'yesterday than today', if you get what I mean. Anyhow, my last words: Get it!!!

Best of 2017; and: Happy new year 2018 and may the force be with you; and the power, too.

Hey my dear readers, I hope you all celebrated the changing of the years from 2017 to 2018 in a great way and however you wanted and/or did it was hopefully the right for you to welcome the new year and say goodbye to the old year. I was 'on the road' and had a great time doing so, hell yeahr, and so yesterday I was a little bit out of order and on stand by and so this post just comes up today. To be honest then I have to admit that this very one here primarly should come up already at the 31st of december of 2017 but on this day I was simply just way too busy and yesterday, like already said, I was sort of put on stand by, yes, and so now this one comes up as the first post of 2018.

First of all I would like to say 'Thank you all!' to my readers, old and new, that follow this blog (again) since its 'revitalisation' since it's 'back from the dead' finally again since the summer of 2017. Thinking about it, hm, I think it had been (more or less) pretty decent six months up here and I decided to continue the work up here also now in 2018. When 'revitalizing' this very blog here in the july of 2017 I think I did sort of a 'Hey, I'm back!' post (or passages) in/with which I mentioned I sort of planned or thought about doing someting completly new, fresh'n'big... well, I thought about it again and again and finally decided 'not' or 'not yet'. In my life or better my private life I had to face a lot of 'complex situations'n'changes' that were challenging and that I had to overcome and while doing and succeeding in doing so I came to the conclusion that concerning this very blog I am happy with this blog being 'back a-live' and with the way it is now 'back a-live'. I decided to focus right now only on my-self for the next months or year and I have a lot on my agenda for 2018. Real life stuff, you know. It's not that I really had any sort of 'thought-through'n'worked-out plans' because in 2017 since the summer more or less all plans fell apart and I had to rebuild quite a lot since then and so any 'real'n'proper planning' is not of any concern for me in/for 2018 but a lot of 'things' I simply want to 'make real' sooner or later over the next twelve months and this 'on many fronts'. And after this whole blog or 'online-thing' is nothing else but a beloved but also just a little hobby for/of me I am realistic and don't want it all to become too 'time-intensive' but rather just keep it going and then maybe some/one day we will see if it starts to become more important to me again or anyway bigger but since then I will stick with this good old blog as long as possibel, so to say. So yes, starting something new... to be honest... maybe one/some day but simply and definitely not yet, nah, because it would be far too 'time-consuming' to do it in a proper way and so I decided to just stick with this very blog also in 2018. Something new would've been also filled with a lot of more 'nerdy stuff' because beside a lot of other stuff I am a huge fan of all this actionfigures'n'toylines stuff, as well as comics, animes, cartoons, games, movies, and such stuff, yes, and this sort of now all my life already... yes, it's true: I was a nerd before it was cool to be a nerd; so to say. So maybe I will add some of this stuff in the future to this blog as well as I am maybe doing some new 'sports' stuff up here again, time will tell. I will 'keep me this doors open', if you get what I say. But mostly this blog will also in 2018 be focussed and 'concentrated-the-most' on music and I will do from some point on also again more than just reviews on (brand)new, older, and old records up here, interviews, band-histories, 'specials', and such stuff. Don't ask me when and what but sooner or later more of this will be added up here - again. Just let me find the time to do so. Also don't ask me about how many posts I am planning to do per months, hell I have not a single clou. There will surely be very active months and then also more quite months and maybe also months that will proabably'r'maybe see no new (proper) posts at all, however, time will tell, but anyhow this blog will continue to go on.

Okay, with that all said... yes, what about any kind of 'top of 2017' list, like all blogs and sites do or (mostly) already did and like also I used to do them as well in the past? Well... okay, but this year I will do only a short overview and not a more or less deatiled list like in the past. In parts due to the fact I haven't done all record-reviews on 2017 releases that I sort of 'had-to-do' so far and in parts due to the fact that I simply can't name a that clear 'album of the year of 2017' for example and so I will just give you sort of a short and quick overview right now, right here. But just let me mention that I personally think that 2017 was a very strong year music-wise, yes, no matter at which particular genre (concerning this very blog here) we now may 'look'. So now follows my list of 2017 albums I would consider a must-have and please keep in mind that may on some of this records I still will or have to do my reviews (on) in the near future. And if otherwise noted above then prepare yourself for the reviews to come up soon in the near future. Yes, I think that's all for it now and so more soon, for sure, and maybe best make also sure to check out other damn strong albums that were released in 2017 like for example the new albums of/by for example MORBID ANGEL, ÜBERGANG, SERIOUS BLACK, BLACKLIST LTD., PAPA ROACH, CKY, and RISE AGAINST, yes, because (like already said) 2017 was definitely a very strong year music-wise. Okay, and now so far thanks for your interest, time, and attention, and more again soon. Have a nice evening. Cheers.

DROPKICK MURPHYS - "11 SHORT STORIES OF PAIN & GLORY" (2017)

DROPKICK MURPHYS - "11 SHORT STORIES OF PAIN & GLORY"
(Running time: 38:43 minutes; 11 songs)
("Born & Bred Records"; 2017; CD):
Hey guys, here it is, the final record-review-post for 2017 and this time I thought why not finally do it on the pretty much very first 2017 release that I bought in 2017 (if I do remember it now correctly) and so now here finally comes my review on the current new album of the almighty DROPKICK MURPHYS that carries the title "11 SHORT STORIES OF PAIN & GLORY" and that was released at the pretty much early beginning of 2017 via "BORN & BRED RECORDS". So, yes, if you know me personally or if you know about me through being a reader of this very blog here now for already a little bit longer than you know that the DROPKICK MURPHYS are since the glory days of their "DO OR DIE" debut an absolute favourite of mine and of highest importance for me, hell yeahr, and so when "11 SHORT STORIES OF PAIN & GLORY" finally was released at the beginning of this now already almost gone'n'over year I was damn fucking excited and curious and I stormed the record store and took it with me - and it totally conquered me one more time again, yes, and I mean it TOTALLY CONQUERED. For sure the DROPKICK MURPHYS aren't doing anything revolutionary new on here but why should they and also their delivery is absolutely top notch again and it's so fresh and alive/lively with the typical unique DROPKICK MURPHYS identity and character and still with exciting twists'n'turns all along the ride and much or better highly grapping arrangements (like for example the Country impressions in the arrangements and the delivery of the verses of "FIRST CLASS LOSER") and an even stronger than before BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN inspired Rock and Rock & Roll influence while still staying true to their Punkrock/Streetpunk and also even to their Oi! roots, yes, and that "11 SHORT STORIES OF PAIN & GLORY" is completly filled with Celtic/Irish Folk elements should be clear and should also need no further explanations anyhow anyway here and now. The songwritiung is one more time again highest skilled and nicely diverse while strongly vayring and offering as one central focus point anthemic arranged verses and even more outstanding hymnal sing-a-long refrains that always deliver an incredible amount of exploding energy, honest passion, and heartfelt power and that never get stale or lame. All is delivered by hard rocking and yet very melodic and play- as well as soulful delivered guitars and a rich Irish Folk instrumentation and both elements mark the music and songs heavily, yes, and the same is to say about the fantastic and incredible charismatic shared lead vocals that are also massively enriched and backed up by loud'n'proud crew chants. Then there's the tight and to the point played rhythm section that only adds up to the massive quality of the songs and the music. Great, strong, and outspoken lyrics, a pretty cool artwork, and a fantastic warm and organic production sound finally round it all up. To give you any personal favorites would make no real sense, after all the songs are of the same highest quality grade, yes, and so I spare me any more words. This is one of the very, very best releases that this year came out and this now from january 2017 on, and still going strong. And like the lyrics so's the music, one of the most powerful albums I've heard this year and also in years (and probably also for years). So, yes, I think that's it all, and so if you really should still not have it then by any means change this as soon as possible. Yes, and then that's it for 2017 and we'll read us next year again. I wish you all a great 'year-change' and then untill 2018. Cheers & Oi!
