Vikingrock from Germany on 'M.F.S. Productions' in 2010

DONARS GROLL - "VON LIEBE, HASS & ALTEN RITEN" ("M.F.S. Productions"; CD):
DONARS GROLL are with KRAFTHEIM the only Vikingrock band coming from Germany that's still active, at least are this the only two bands that come to my mind after the stupid jackasses of NORDWIND are not active anymore for quite a while now, but hey, don't understand me wrong, that NORDWIND arent't active anymore is everything but a pity. So okay, here's the newest current release of the german Vikingrock band DONARS GROLL. It's their third release in total. Their debut I still don't know. It used to come via a fucking record label of the radical and extreme political right, via "P.C. RECORDS", and as if this wouldn't had been enough I was reading in reviews that they would use to sing about bullshit 'white-issues', and yes, that was enough crap for me so that I decided not to take a listen to it. Their second record used to come via the belgian right wing record label "PURE IMPACT RECORDS" and was titled "GEGEN DEN STROM" (can be translated as "AGAINST THE STREAM"). Per accident I listened to it once, and yeahr, it was a really nice suprise. Okay, lyrically filled with, hm, let us be nice and call it at least ingenuous patriotism but without some 'white-issues' crap, but musically it was just a really pretty good Vikingrock release. After their really good precursor record and reading only very positive reviews about this record here I was really excited... and I was truly disappointed, what a let-down. Much more Metal in it this time, just listen to the drumming and the rhythm structure of a lot of the songs. And if you choose to play some more Metal stuff, then make sure that you can do it in a good way. So okay, now back to the problems I have with this one here. The lead vocals are totally ineloquently expressed and sound most of the time terribly crooked and bevel. Then the lead guitar playing, the most important part of a good Vikingrock song, at least if you ask me, ah, guys, have you ever heard only once about possible variations to the always equal sounding same lines?!? It's incredibly boring!!! The rhythm section: The bass playing isn't really marking the songs, no matter in what way ever, it's just not really there, if you know what I mean, and the drumming is at last some solid work, but also nothing too special, some standrad Metal double bass drum parts again and again and that's it. Don't ge me total wrong, because this guys know more or less how to play, yes, it's not like they are total dabblers when it's comes to playing their instruments, no that's not the biggest problem at all, but what's a huge, huge problem, beside and also chained to the already named issues, is the fact that their songwriting is also just incredible non-tight and often pretty much dissonant crap that's not fitting really together. You need an example?!? Okay, here we go: Listen to "ZEIT DES VERFALLS", this 'SKA-licks verses' are played (by the way not really tight down to the point) to flow over in a pseudo-pathos Heavy Metal refrain part, linked by short guitar lead (and also ridiculous expressionless vocals), and it's eveything but flowing, just some non-smart chaining of different parts. And their "REBEL SONG" is nothing more than a dissonant farce, I mean, couldn't they hear that all the parts aren't fitting to each other?!? It really hurts your ears while you are listening to it!!! And that's only one example. And guys, don't ya ever do an english song again, "YOU ARE THE GIRL" is one of the worst tracks I've ever listened to. And it's not just because the english language seemed to be not really made for DONARS GROLL at all, but also the music is incredible uninspired stuff. Okay, some nice ideas that are also worked out good they have also to offer, for example their setting of the "MERSEBURGR ZAUBERSPRUCH" is really a good one, and "EWIGE ASATRU" is a really damn nice pagan-like Heavy Metal track with a really cool and grapping guitar lead and some good and heavy and also (what a suprise) really well flowing rhythm structure to it. Okay, that said to the music, that's all what there's to say. Some nice notes are to be recognized, but that's it. This is a musically let-down and also something like a (big or bigger) dissapointment (to me), I was really expecting (much, much) more of it. Lyrically we get a lot of... how did I use to call it: Ingeniuous patriotism with a lot of unreflected conservative right wing critizism on society and the currently ruling policy, but without offering any real alternatives and just crying about how the 'hematology of the nationalistic congeries of blood and soil' is being spoiled and contaminated by modern and alien influences. So, okay, I think I dont't need to say more about the issues they are dealing with (and the way how they are dealing with it) in their lyrics. It's more or less a big bunch of bullshit, but okay, how-ever, the typical case as soon as german nationalistic right wingers use to cry about modern and so called alien tendencies and developments in a mythologic way of blood and soil ideas. Okay, so what's left to say, hm, I don't know, maybe just that if you are searching for an german and much more Metal sounding version of typical ULTIMA THULE Vikingrock and nothing else, and this also not that good at all, then you can maybe risk an ear or two, but don't expect too much at all... Should be also something interesting for a lot of the Metalheads out there, musically as well as lyrically, hm, what-ever this now may mean... Ah, okay, the production sound is worked out good and the artwork looks really awesome. (Even if I haven't needed the two couples of dices that are showing two times '8' what's making it '88' to read, yes, don't know if there's any intended motivation behind it, but how-ever, it sucks, and yes, just that you know about it!) Okay, after all, like I've already said, a dissapointment to me (at least musically, 'cause lyrically I pretty much knew what would be coming here) and all in all even not a really anyhow necessary or 'check ´em out' or what-so-ever release, so better let us pretty fast and even sooner forget about it, ha, but how-ever, 'cause now I finally have another next birthday present for the next 'lucky' guy of my friends who's next in line with his or her birthday, who ever this may be, don't worry, you can thank me later... (4 of 10 points)
